OpenWrt for new hardware

Late, very late, last night I was able to modify OpenWrt and perfectly track a StarOS ## on 5 GHz, from 4.9 to the top.  It is all manual to set it, so now I have to automate that.  But it works.

I had to abandon the idea of porting StarOS to the new hardware.  I have OpenWrt going very nicely on the hardware and all I was lacking was the licensed channels.

I will not even try for the 5 & 10 MHz channels.  My testing shows it is all about air time.  So if you use a standard 20 MHz channel and set a throughput limit, it frees up all of the air time for other units on or near the same channel.

What this also means is that as new hardware becomes available it will be much easier to support.

I expect to have this all tidied up in a couple of weeks.  I know this has been said before, but it was always at the start of the project, never this close to the end, an it is working.  I have spent hundreds, maybe thousands, of hours to get this.  I'm maybe too stubborn, but I don't quit.

HUGE success.

I now have OpenWrt that can track all StarOS ## channels for the Ventana, old War1B-5GHz, new StarBurst1214 and newStarBurst1205.

Work is in progress to make it easier for Ken to load it onto new gear. If it already has StarOS, then it has to stay that way and you can use it as a Client. Clients have always been reliable so we are only worried about replacing the AP units.

I now have a Flash converter for the Ventana, so it can move to OpenWrt. If they get bricked they can be jtag'ed. The War1B style units are garbage if they bet bricked on an update.

Some good news look forward to testing it out soon.

Any ETA when updates will be ready for download for the new StarBurst radios?

Not sure if I am doing it correctly however it's giving me an error when uploading the image.
(The uploaded image file does not contain a supported format. Make sure that you choose the generic image format for your platform.)

That hardware has a special way to recover, but it requires access in-house.

Right after power on, push and hold the reset button between the Ethernet ports. All of the lights will soon blink. Hold the button until you see them blink three times. A ping to 192.168.1.1 will begin to succeed. stop pushing the button after the 3rd blink.

Point your browser to 192.168.1.1 and you will see a screen allowing you to find a file (starburstm1205n-1.0-1.0-ar71xx-generic-cf-e320n-v2-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin) and then upload it and finally after it has checked, write it out.

Your ping should stop soon after indicating it is rebooting. Pings should start very shortly to 192.168.1.1 and then you can browse to it and commence configuration.

I have had trouble with the download site and the MyWisp password organizer. It was adding an extra byte, and that might be enough to ruin the file for upgrade purposes. For sure my mod detection in MyWisp refuses to run.

Let me know and I will put up a standard ftp site.

Looks like I'll need that FTP download, I upload the file from the recovery upload and it fails to reboot or do anything.

Lonnie, Does your new software do OLSR and is it ported to Laguna and Ventana?

Yes, OLSR is included and it will do pretty much everything StarOS did, Just differently as far as the GUI is concerned. Once you get the hang of the new GUI it is quite easy.

I have it for the X86 Server, Ventana, War1B 5GHz, and the new 2.4 GHz hardware the Cue-Link is stocking.

I have a special Ventana version, similar to the X86 Server with no wireless but an added driver for a Realtek dual Gb mini PCIe card. When get the Cloud storage sharing setup I will post a boot Flash to be used for converting a Ventana from StarOS to Openwrt.

I know it is taking a long time but I can assure you I have been very busy.

I will also post a new MyWisp password and site organizer, with mapping, that has a nice feature that will scan AP-Client combinations and activate the AP if the Client becomes unreachable.

How do I get a copy of your software and pay for it?
