Default GeckoV4 4.4.5 is now available for download

The new 4.4.5 (build 7594) is now available.
    Please download from dropbox here

Please let us know of any issues you encounter, or general questions. Feedback is welcome.

Note: This release is only intended for devices with larger (16MB or more) storage.
If you do not find your release available in the downloads folder, do not worry as a version for the 8MB systems (such as the WAR-1A) will be available soon.

    4.4.5
*) This is a major update that has undergone a lengthy beta period (4.4.4.x)
*) Wireless support has undergone a sizeable upgrade for better support for newer cards, and performance.
*) Those with Lagunas can now enable a Card Watchdog option to ensure their cards remain active if hardware issues arise.
*) New WAR-1B hardware platform is now fully supported (11ng and 11na) - Please contact cue-link for details.
*) NET-SNMP OID renumbering issue has been resolved.
*) "NO" and several other EU countries had issues operating in 2.4GHz mode. This has been fixed.
*) SSH (dropbear) has been upgraded to the latest release, and should resolve the "hanging" session issue seen on some Ventana systems.
*) Round one of 802.11ac support has been included. Most cards (Atheros and QCA) should be supported (See note below)
*) General bug fixes, tweaks, and improvements.

    802.11ac support:
Currently, we have full support for all 802.11abg, and 802.11n modes however 802.11ac (VHT) modes and rates are yet to be included, but will be soon.
Some things to note with 11ac cards:
    1. They use an on-board firmware that is limited, and as such some common features are not available include Cloaking, and Distance tuning.
    2. Association link "Quality" is not available, and will stay at 100.
    3. 11ac cards have a firmware limit of 128 associations per card.

    ---------------------------
    4.4.4
*) Small updates to Wireless for increased performance

    ---------------------------
    4.4.3.6
*) 11abg (legacy) card fixes for broken eeproms which should resolve XR3 power output issues
*) Fixed issue with 11abg (legacy) cards that restrict maximum distance
*) 11n improvements that should help certain types of cards perform better at distance

    ---------------------------
    4.4.3.5
*) More work on resolving AP stalling issues reported by some users
    *) Wireless optimizations and tuning
*) Legacy (11abg) improvements for transmit power, and performance tuning

    ---------------------------
    4.4.3.4
*) Work on resolving AP stalling issues reported by some users
*) Ubiquiti XR3 (X3) country code (see notes)
*) Many wireless related improvements and performance enhancements
*) starutil support file support added (see notes)

    starutil:
You can now use the starutil -support parameter to extract a support file from the system which you can send to us for troubleshooting if you encounter an issue with your system. It is a good idea to send us two files, one from when the system is operating normally, and the other after the system encountered issues (before the reboot or card re-activate).

The support file download will take upwards of 20 seconds to complete, so do not be alarmed if the command takes a while.

We have released new starutil versions for Windows, Linux, and Mac. New parameters include -coreinfo which displays some useful information about your system.

    Ubiquiti cards:
The new XR3 specific country code will provide access to 5770 in 20 MHz widths which is a non-standard channel center, and not otherwise available. Please note that XR3 cards have a 10 dBm amplifier on top of the card, so you need to adjust the power levels to compensate. Entering a value of 15 will be 25 dBm for example, and if you overdrive the card by pushing it higher than spec power limits, there is risk of damaging the external amplifier. For all Ubiquiti cards, it is highly recommended to enter a power level by hand, and never enter 'auto' for these cards.

Our original 2008 post regarding the Ubiquiti cards.

Power levels for Ubiquiti cards are as follows: (do not exceed the "Max Power" levels).
    • SR2: Max Power: 16dBm, Max Actual: 26dBm, Power Offset: 10dB
    • SR4: Max Power: 19dBm, Max Actual: 26dBm, Power Offset: 7dB
    • SR5: Max Power: 19dBm, Max Actual: 26dBm, Power Offset: 7dB
    • SR9: Max Power: 16dBm, Max Actual: 28dBm, Power Offset: 12dB
    • XR2: Max Power: 18dBm, Max Actual: 28dBm, Power Offset: 10dB
    • XR3: Max Power: 15dBm, Max Actual: 25dBm, Power Offset: 10dB
    • XR5: Max Power: 18dBm, Max Actual: 28dBm, Power Offset: 10dB
    • XR9: Max Power: 17dBm, Max Actual: 27dBm, Power Offset: 10dB

    4.4.3.0 - 4.4.3.3

is there any thing different between x86 server with this release and those back to 4.1.9.7?
What would be upgrade if there is no wireless?

Most of the changes are wireless related, however the Server & other X86 platforms have had several software-related updates since 4.1.9.7 including Quagga, OLSR, Dropbear (SSH), Kernel, and more.

The Server edition does not have Wireless support, though that is something that will probably change soon.

The WAR-1a firmware was a little delayed and should be out shortly.
