View Full Version : how to configure the cpe version
ok.. I got the server/router versions figured, but how do you get into the cpe version? all I get from the console port is restore defaults or reboot. I figured it might be at 192.168.1.1, but nothing there on either of the ethernet ports. I'm probably missing something obvious and going to say 'dohhh!!' when someone tells me. Thanks.

The IP address is indeed 192.168.1.1 (on ether1) / username admin / password 1234
Make sure you connect to it using ssh (PuTTY defaults to telnet)
When it boots up, how many ethernet ports does it list?
Thanks!
dohhh!! I forgot to use a crossover cable. Anyways, now I'm in, what are the differences between the router and the cpe editions? the only thing I notice on the comparison chart is the ethernet chipsets supported. Thanks again.

Glad to see it's working.
Router supports more ethernet adaptors (listed on specs page). This is not a problem for a SBC as we include support for the most common ones in the CPE version. The CPE version uses a different firmware upgrade method due to the limited amount of memory in the system, where as the Router version has a method that uses system ram verify the firmware before writting. Other than that, they are operationally identical.
Thanks!
ok. one more question, will star-os support dual/quad processors?

The software will operate on it nicely, however we only support a single processor. We initially supported SMP systems but have discontinued that line due to stability issues with various motherboard manufacturers.
Thanks!
darn.. I gotta dual p4 2.4 xeon server here I was gonna play with hehehe, i think that would be a little overkill anyways. thanks a mil.
For a router, or even a proxy server, that may be a little much but would run nice. :)

I don't think we have ever tested with that specific hardware. Please box it up and send it to us so that we can A) make sure the BIOS is compatible B) make sure the DOM plugs in correctly C) uh, running out of excuses here. Just send the dang thing, OK?
hahaha... it's kind of interesting how I came upon it, email me for the story if your interested. It's my gaming machine right now  too bad directx doesn't support twins :( but I have a feeling it will be sacrificed soon.
