View Full Version : StarV3 now available via BitTorrent
The tracker with the files is available at: http://tog.net:8080/
All StarV3 1.3.23b .pkg files are currently being made available there. I am providing three seeders (two of which are directly attached to 100mbit) so it should go pretty fast.
The 1.3.23b .cf and .jtag files are now also available via BitTorrent as requested.
To keep it simple and convenient, I just have the most common downloads that people are looking for (the .pkg upgrade files) available separately and then a bigger torrent that just has everything in it.
Torrents do allow you to selectively download files so even if you did not want to download the entire 184MB from the big torrent you can quite easily cherry pick the particular file you wanted out of it.
All files were md5 checksummed against Valemount's originals before being added as torrents.
kudos Tog - it took me an hour to get the full release downloaded - waiting for each one to d/l before I could start the next - this way whatever length it takes it sure is easier to just start the d/l and forget..! thanks again
btw - could you recommend a good secure bt client?
For windows, I use utorrent. It's nice, it's small, it's simple. No hassle, no irritation.

Under FreeBSD I use the simpler ctorrent on an older platform and I use the more complex ncurses rtorrent on a newer platform where I can actually upgrade to all the latest normal stuff because it has no trouble compiling.
For OSX you're on your own, but I know there are plenty of good ones.

Thanks so much Tog. I was downloading a moment ago at nearly 15Mbps! I am now a seeder and will continue to be so long as you keep the tracker up.

Now that's fast.
Nice, 184MB in 90 seconds :)
Seeding from three clients that are on 100mbit helps.
Late next week I'll be going from 100mbit to GigE, too!

I will keep my seed alive as long as tracker is running
The StarV3 torrents now include two seeders connected to The Internet at a full gigabit.
I now have the 1.4.0b .pkg files available on tog.net's torrent tracker, anybody who'd like to download at 2000K/sec off my GigE, come and get it.

Hi Tog,
How about a quick explanation in the WIKI how to get torrent files and the process. I am sure there are folks out there that would like to use this transport system that have never even seen it in action.
Download and install utorrent (if you use Windows), it is ridiculously tiny and a great torrent client.

Click on my .torrent links either from forum posts or from the tracker site, choose to open the .torrent files with utorrent when your browser asks if you want to open or save. That's about it.
Mac OS X also has many torrent clients, I just don't know which one to recommend offhand.

I use utorrent on Windoz and I like you can select just the files you need, but yesterday I download them all anyway.
Just a quick update, given what I expect will be the volatile and likely rapid-fire nature of these upcoming 1.4.x series beta releases, I'm not bothering to do the big ball of "all files all platforms" so it'll just be the .pkg upgrade files for now.
One of those big "all files all platforms" torrents takes me a good 15 mins to create, so I'll hold off on creating one of those until we reach a release that's nice and sturdy and has the potential to be the defacto standard "best available release".
