Is there any way something like this can be run on the WAR-1?
Sure would be nice to see the blank channels for cloaking.
When I talked to the author he said that they had to make their own radio because nothing else was good enough.
They don't seem to be interested in a 900 or 5Ghz version at this time.
Boy oh boy could we use this type of thing even if it was a stand alone device.
Just a thought,
It looks neat, but the size for the one application alone far exceeds the storage capacity of the WAR-1, not to mention requires a fairly sizable GTK and related windowing components. It's designed with a desktop system in mind. Also seems to require a unique USB radio for it to function.

Oh yes, I never ment for it to run on a WAR just use it as the detector.
Actually I asked them if they could use the SCR PCMCIA card and that is when they said that they could not find a card good enough so they had to design and build something for themselves.
It would have to run on a laptop most likely.
Maybe some bored windows guy has time to make it happen.
I am sure you have enough to do for some time to come.
I was just "looking for a good nickel cigar" (5x band SA)

I have one of these 2.4 USB SA, I find them very useful indoors but not much good outside. I found the my microwave oven in the house was leaking with one of these. I have taken on of these apart and fixed it on the back of a PW Roo, works a little better but not as well as it should (But I will put that down to my soldering skills). Need to buy a new one now as I can't take it out of the roo for fear of messing it up for good.

Anyone tried one of these?
I have been mulling it over for some time. I agree the USB Wispy thing is just about useless outdoor. We did get some better results by attaching it to the feed horn of a 24db dish and using a usb extension cable. It just proved to be very inconvenient to use.

Maybe it is possible to scan a selected freq band and display a value of from 1 to 10 for each channels noise level.
Very crude but better than "a wet finger in a wind storm."

Hi,
I have tried one of the units mention by palmczak (http://forums.star-os.com/member.php?u=905), the Spectran. Personally thought it was very hit and miss. Also the spectrum display is not realtime like a true spectrum analyzer, it sweeps te frequency range over the space of a few seconds, and the results are very varying on every sweep. Think this is more designed for determining power emmissions on a specific frequency.
but hey, maybe i just didnt understand how to use it properly.......
Regards,
Kev.

I am sure you can cut the radio side connector off a roo tenna pigtail.
Strip it back (5/16 inch max) and solder it to the proper point inside the wi spy origional model unit.
You have to disconnect the existing antenna to get a good impedance match and keep the connections as short as possible.
Soldering arts are another thing.
This is a sterling example of one of the prerequisits of being a good tech.
You have to have the "Grip of a gorilla and the fingers of a fairy"
They came out with their new and improved unit with an external antenna sma connector .

I waited to buy one hoping they would come out with a 5ghz model.
Now the new and improved unit with antenna connector is 2.4g is $400 and no 5g in sight.
This should work well outside tucked inside a roo with a usb extention cable. It should show everything, even cloaked channels on 2.4g.
Not a bad "Bang for the buck" for $400.
