Support for Prism 2.5 cards, to accomplish the same benefits as with the Lucent cards.
FreeBSD based :)

We are researching the possibility to add similar features to Intersil cards. Hopefuly we will have good news sometime shortly.

And what cards use Intersil chips?
Anything with more power and better sensitivity?

Prism 2 / 2.5 cards use 'Intersil' chips (if you never knew). Some of the more common cards are from zCom, and resold via Demarc and TT.

That's a big DUHHH... I knew that, but you know, some days more leaks out than was stored in this sieve between my ears...
Any ETA on that?

No ETAs as we are still researching whether this feature is even possible on the Intersil chips like it is on the Agere. We are hoping however!

trim your quotes. This board allows everyone to see the relevant post, so we don't need quite as much duplication. OK?

Yikes, SORRY. That was a bit harsh. I mean - Please, trim your quotes. Purty please.

Just another request for intersil long distance timing setting. As of right now, we are using lucent (orinoco silver) cards in our hilltops using freebsd as the access points. On some towers we have amps. Our plan is to go to Star-OS and 200mw prism 2.5 demarctech cards, and remove the amps, replace the cable with lmr-600 or 900 or heliax.
Anyways, most our customers are 4-9 miles from a couple of our towers, and a few that are 11 miles. Today we attempted to do a experimental 12 mile link, using a 24dB grid and a linksys wet11. The tower is amped at max allowable output (36dB). The wet11 pcmcia (prism based) didn't pick up a signal, and couldn't ping the hilltop. I put a 200mw demarctech in the linksys wet11 and still couldn't ping the hilltop, BUT I could pick up the network name. I then did a test with my laptop and orinoco silver pcmcia card and got SNRs of station 20dB, partner 9dB. Good enough for a link. I plopped the orinoco silver in the wet11 and configured our VPN, and I was surfin at 12 miles.
Anyways, our plan of putting the 200mw cards at the hilltops are on hold, since we don't think they can go long distance. We haven't tested the 200mw cards that much yet, but we have with the prism cards that come in the wet11. We have seen timeouts at links over 4 miles from our lucent hilltops, and completely unusable at 7 miles, even on our amped towers.

You have found out, as we have, that the Lucent Silver does a very good job. There are "better" spec'ed cards but we have yet to see that they even perform as good.
We have been requesting the information from Intersil, and I'm sure they will provide it. Until then, we have other things to get done.
:!: Update - Intersil has officially responded that the info we need is not available. Time for us to move along. :!:
We focus energy on what we can do, not what we want to do.

Lonnie or Tony, what is the furthest distance you've seen a prism 2.5 card at the AP and a hermes card as CPE talk to eachother?
Thanks, Bob C

Sorry, all of our AP's are made with Lucent cards. For obvious reasons we use the best that we can get.

Has Prism given you any info about adjusting the timing in their cards? I would really like to mount some 100mw cards at the sector, and ditch the amp. I just can't deal with the noise levels on some of our sectors and we've tried everything.
Bob C
Yes, we got word back from Intersil. Their cards and firmware do not support any form of distance tweaking.
