We always get asked for Custom Branding of the firmware. It seems people like to use StarOS but they prefer not to let everybody know it.

We have figured out how to do this easily. Previously it was nightmare and each OEM release was a complete project. It took almost 24 hours to compile and get a release ready. For that reason I was very hesitant about adding more OEM customers, especially if they were not large. Now we can manage this as a simple license option.

What I see happening is we'll have V3 with our own Brand on it as the base price, and have a fee for no brand and another fee for your own custom brand. It will require a few changes to the database and also the web site to be able to capture and create the new license. We would have the ability to update StarOS branded units to your own named units with a simple license upgrade.

Any thoughts on this?

That would be awesome but what kind of restrictions would be involved as far as resale of custom branded units?

The same as always. When you pay for it, you can do what you want with it. Use it, sell it, look at it, or throw it away. You decide.

Assuming you are inclduing WISP's using war boards to build cpe's as an OEM (of sorts)...

This would be a useful feature especially when the web gui comes along which I'm sure i've read will (at some stage) have the ability to allow
restricted access to the firmware, could be used to allow customers access to the cpe for example. At the moment we don't allow
customers access to the CPE we do it remotely but there are times when allowing limited access would be very handy indeed. Once allowing customers access to the CPE I would be very interested in branding the CPE with our own brand/logo.. where brand building is concerned every bit helps..>!

I would be interested if you offered an OEM Branded FCC Certified package deal.

I don't see the point in branding for our own use and I can't risk reselling a non-certified system.

Hey Lonnie, I think it is a fantastic ideal, and would be happy to pay a little extra per license seat to have a branded or unbranded solution. I am always happy to include "Powered by StarOS" on stickers or in the software interface as I am proud to use your software in most of our custom built solutions.

That being said, there is the customer perception that when there is a name on the outside of the widget the name on the inside of the widget should match, and providing that option to resellers, OEMs and integrators like us is the next value added step in your lineup.

Thanks,
Greg W.

P.S. Current beta build made stable + Multiple SSIDs + Branding Options = Sold!!!

The branding will happen when we revamp the license mechanism and Multiple ESSID is slated for the web interface conversion. Later this Fall.
