DO NOT USE ERASERS ON GOLD CONTACTS!!
Use rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs. Erasers, unless you have a very old pure rubber one, have chemicals embedded in them that you will not know about, and really could cause more harm than good. If you don't have these items handy, keep a bottle of distilled water handy and use your jeans to clean the gold contact, very lightly. Gold will oxidize, which is an easy fix. Gold can corrode, which is not so easy to repair.
