Are we ever going to have any kind of DHCP server for the compex version? No mattter how simplistic, we really, REALLY need it to have a real cpe.

The Compex release (WAR-1) has a DHCP server (DHCP auto-auth), and client.

I'll add that it has ALWAYS been there, from the very first release.

I had no idea what "dhcp auto-auth" was. Always assumed it was a client end function. I still don't understand the "auto-auth" thing.

I really liked the dhcp server setup in V2 and the ISC dhcpd is alright in the other versions. The inability to set static ip's per mac address will be missed, but i doubt I'll use compex boards for AP's very often. I just happen to need a mini-pop type setup where the client and ap must be physically separated by a long distance (opposite ends of a house).

I guess this is where I get to point out that we have a manual available for download.

I'll also point out that simply opening the page on ssh would have shown it was not client end, but was a dhcp server with dns and gateway settings. Don't be scared to look at the screens. Skim them like you do a book. No damage comes from looking.

Didn't know that the new compex war1's could be an ap

That means you have never used one? Sigh. You are missing out, big time.

The Compex AP will not have the ISC DHCP Server and cannot have WPA, and DNS and the BIG server functions. It has firewall, cbq, rip routing, and pretty much everything required to make a very good client with the addition of an AP mode.

Lonnie is correct. While the WAR-1 is designed for client-side use, it will function as a good AP if needed.

In the upcoming 1.3.0 release, all platforms will support WPA & RSN, however the WAR-1 release will only have this ability while operating as a client.

WHEW. I thought from lonnies post that it would not have any WPA. Client mode is perfect.

Actually I have used a bunch, for clients. I like Mark have not thumbed my way through all the tabs.

I just recall in the past you saying that it would not have ap function.

Things change too fast, I'm now thoroughly confused.

Next thing, you'll tell me that the wars do snmp and hotspot :)

If you want to see what has changed and what new features have become available you can keep an eye on:
http://staros.tog.net/wiki/V3_Changelog

I stick all the release notes there nicely-formatted and easy-to-read on one page so you can see what has happened at a glance.

Of course this doesn't cover what is to be, only what has already been released and made available. If you are interested in what is to be, you have to watch the forum.

snmp for sure in the develppment release being readied. HotSpot will not be real nice but there will be radius ACL and WPA.

Nice site you've built Tog.

I watch the list very closely. I just don't recall reading that war1's did ap.
I could have sworn before they came out Lonnie said no ap suport for war1's.

You are correct. Initially we were not going to offer AP support in the WAR-1 platforms, however we have found that it works pretty good as a small AP, so have decided to keep that functionality intact.

The primary focus of the WAR-1 is client use however.
