I am curious about ultra wide band and if any knows much about it yet? I have read it may provide up to 670mbps...? Just making conversation.

Have you looked at the usable distance?

I have now. Thanks Jeff for not posting it cause that would've just made way too much sense.

After some more reading, it looks as though it's application is only for PAN's. High through-put over short distances. Wireless in home media type stuff.

Didn't know the distance off the top of my head. Simply knew that ultra wide band isn't going to work well in an open environment. It is based on spreading the radiated power across a wide swath of spectrum. Unless you are very close you wouldn't even be able to detect the signal. This is why you can even use it since the transmitted signal overlaps pretty much every band you are familiar with.

Anyone ever play with wimax? I talked with one guy who said he played with it...

Said it was just a little usb port adapter thingy. He said he was able to drive anywhere in town even up to 70 mph and keep great through put.

He also said one AP is like $50,000.00

I might as well grab a couple of them while they are still pretty cheap.

You're talking the mobile version 802.16e? Or is that fixed wimax AP price too?

Are we going to see wimax in the public spectrum do you think? That would drive the price down

I wish I would have known those great questions to ask him when I was talking to him.

The guy I am talking about was the previous owner of the wireless I now own. He is now into laying fiber, providing DSL and phone service.

He said if he where to get into the wireless side again he would go wimax. He doesn't mind getting huge loans. It can be very hard at times but I do my best to stay away from credit. I grow slow but I sleep well.

I agree raf, it's good to know I'm not alone in thinking this way
