My main problem is getting StarOS hooked into my internet connection which is dynamicly assigned. Since StarOS does not have a DHCP client built in, what would be the best way to get it hooked up to my Dynamicly assigned internet connnection (besides getting a static IP.....heh)?

So, what is the easiest way to hook a StarOS AP to a Dynamic connection? :?

It would make sense that we should have DHCP client support. We will see about adding it.

Thanks

At this point it is static only. Ask your ISP if you can connect, give them the MAC address and use the IP they assign you. I'm sure you will have to sign up for Business Internet but you are going to resell anyway, right?

i personaly cannot due to WA State L&I/Social security rules, but the "family distributor" will be as soon as they get the bugs out of the system (website). There's noway i can afford the extra $50 they charge for static IP's. at least not for at least 6 months. guess i'll keep trying other ways untill you can add DHCP client capability. maybe i can find another solution in the meantime. thanks for the help.

I have found a solution in freesco. it works as an
ethernet bridge as well. heh did't know that. thanks for the help and I do believe that when you are able to add client DHCP, it will Make your product even better. I look forward to seeing how things progress...great job l&t!

Hi,
Any progress on DHCP client for router or server?
I am interested in having a wlan interface connect to a public wisp. Then use a combo of wired or wirless interfaces bridged or nat my wisp connection.

PS: Keep up the good work.

Client mode is still on the schedule. We keep getting other things that we want first.

Hi

I found out about start OS after I installed a 2 D-link AP-900 in a 4 miles bridge, plus a wireless router and another AP at my cottage...

Look so cool I boutgh a reouter license this morning.

I'm on a cable modem and I also need the DHCP client, I understand that this feature is probably not on you top 5 list but do your have an idea when you think it will be available?

Thanks

Isn't DHCP client already there? I could have sworn I was using it last week :P

You have found out that the DHCP client is already there and has been working very well for some clients on ADSL.

The DHCP server will assign the default route so your box will be able to talk to the outside world. The trouble will be your "inside" units and you simply setup and DHCP server of your own for the inside Ethernet (using a private IP range). Then you simply use the masq command to nat to the Ethernet that your outside connection uses and you are live and on the 'Net.

Thanks for the quick reply

I got it to work, I'm not trying to figure out why the pptp passtrough doesn't work.

I'm very impress by the level of functionnalities, support and reasonable price.

I'm now an Star-os evengalist :D

Two tumbs up!!!
