Hi all,

I wanted to know which outdoor enclosures you all are using to put your WRAP or WAR boards in as AP/Backhaul?

die-cast aluminum enclosure or NEMA 4-rated PVC enclosure?

Pros and cons?

I use the die cast aluminium enclosure from pac wireless.

Pros: it sheilds the equipment, it grounds whatever you wanted grounded to the tower, like the bulkhead N connector, and I can isolate what I want isolated by using plastic stand-offs. And it's not terribly expensive.

Cons: It has 8 screws, which is time consuming and fiddly and you have to be careful not to drop them. But they now make a hinged door, which I'm going to try out. If it works well, I'll buy a few and replace the screwed covers as and when I have to service them.

Thanks,
Roger

We use the same enclosures and have been using the Hinged Cover for all our new and upgraded APs. The door is kind of a pain to install until you get used to it, but once you figure it out, it's not so bad. Having the hinged door is soooo much nicer when/if you ever need to get back into it later.

My biggest gripe is the knock out placement for the bulkheads. There are two on the bottom and they are too close to each other which makes weather proofing the connections difficult.

For WAR4 boards we drill our own holes on the sides of the case; one in each corner.

I'd give them a 7.5 out of 10. :D

We use a IP65 metal box with a door and a lock with a key, box 300mm x 250mm x 150mm deep. All our AP's have doors with locks, very easy to open and you dont drop and screws down the tower. The boxes are powder coated and don't rust, I drill 4 x 16mm holes for the pig tails and one 20mm hole for a cable gland, with such a big box you can really space out the pig tails and gland so water proofing is easy. The next boxes we will be getting will be the same dims butr stainless steel, 316 stainless I think and again IP65 rated.
