The first release of StarCom is now available.
StarCom is a Windows utility for managing network devices. Please check TenLizard.com (http://www.tenlizard.com) for more information. The site is a work in progress and the documentation will be completed over the next few days. This version has been tested on XP Pro, XP Home and has had limited testing on Vista. I'm sure there are still a few bugs, I'll handle them as they are reported. Licensing is not automated so please allow 24 hours for delivery before you start emailing!
Thanks, hope it was worth the wait.

I don't have windows on either of my computers. I'm a mac/linux guy now. I tried it for a few minutes on my wifes computer. I might install parallels on the mac to try it out. It sure looks really handy.
Thanks,
Roger

^ Ditto. Don't use Windows, won't use Windows.
Shame really, it looks like a nice utility.

I am tring it out! Nice utility.. The only problem I am having is I cannot get it to upgrade firmware to a star-os box. I get a C++ runtime error and it quits.. Using Ver 1.1
Even with that small problem I have not figured out I willl be sending some paypal funds for it. nice to have a utility that I can put everything in one basket :)

I'll take a look at that and see what's going on with it. Might have missed something when I was correcting the apostrophe issues.
Are you using a password to start StarCom?
Do you have apostrophes in the device name or group name?

no password or apostrophe's.. I have been getting more and more errors though.. I am going to try it on another box. don't look too deep I am not convinced it is a program error yet..
Thanks

Let me know what you find out. I haven't heard of anyone else having problems since the 1.1 release.
Thanks!

Can't get it to download a script or cbq report Steve
all I can get is "error downloading"
XP Pro, Star V3 1.1.13 War 2
any ideas?

StarV3 versions up to and including build 2080 do not support individual script handling. The upcoming release will support this, and more.
StarCom should support the configuration backup and restore options however.

All I can say is that it is work in progress and local beta code is running and in use in real live customer radios.

Any chance that we can get a version with individual script handling and an snmp fix before the new wireless driver is rolled in? We really need those features and I would like to deploy them faster than I plan to deploy the new wireless features since I want to monitor any compatibility issues over time.
The next update will contain the updated Atheros, and many (many) other updates and fixes, and will mark the beginning of the 1.3.x release branch.
We will keep 1.1.x open for maintenance for the time being, as to provide small updates and fixes for those wishing to continue using the existing Atheros support. We will be able to back-port some of our updates, such as multi-script handling, etc. however the snmp updates will remain in the 1.3.x branch.

Does "snmp updates" mean finally getting snmp support for wireless info? As far as back porting goes multi-script and just fixing the memory leak in the existing snmp would be plenty. That would be a big improvement in the manageability of the system.
Since you mentioned "many" new features I guess I will beat the same dead horse I have been beating for the last 2 1/2 years and ask if we might finally be getting close to full duplex support?
Sorry to keep asking annoying questions but:
Is your upcoming 1.3.x branch going to be the "stable" 1.1.x atheros driver with major enhancements or is it going to be based on the 1.2.x driver?
Jeff, the snmp updates simply means anything related to snmp, and not any specific feature, addition or fix. The memory leak was not related to snmp in question, though it was the trigger and as such only the 1.3.x branches will (and can) incorporate the necessary fixes.
Tog, the 1.3.x will be incorporating the 1.2.x driver, with many fixes and enhancements for both performance and compatibility.
I am both frightened and intrigued.
(No offense, I'm sure that driver will work better after you debug it for a while)

Me too. That was why I was hoping snmp and better support for configuration scripts would make it into the 1.1 branch. My experience with 1.2 was not great and I would like to roll it out slowly until we know it doesn't break something in our environment.

How is this better than Intermapper?

Try it for 30 days and then you can come back and tell us? Seriously, I've never used Intermapper so I don't know.

Steve is doing this for all the guys who need something but have not been able to find anything they can work with. He is an ISP and uses the tool himself. That is probably why it has the features an ISP would need, and not just a bunch of things the marketing guys came up with.

Yeah, with the upcoming release including a starutild that is completely full-featured, StarCom is going to be REALLY impressive. I am actually going to buy it :)
StarCom is indeed a good program, that myself and a few other staff members use daily.
All that is needed now is a UtiliStar station import. ;)

Sounds interesting. What did you have in mind?
Nothing much, just something that can import configured systems from UtiliStar into StarCom (to save having to re-enter hundreds of systems).

Tony, Let me know what version of UtiliStar you are using.
