Hi,

Just a simple question really.

How or what does the diversity antenna function do ? and how does it work ?

Many Thanks

Kev.

Or you could also look at this page ( http://www.ecs.umass.edu/ece/allerton/papers1999/17/ )

I found this very good.

The second link doesn't work for me.

Does it really make any difference in performance whether the actual port is selected or using the diversity setting? The convenience of being able to use either port is attractive. I've got some radios that have a bad one and you have to use it. There are times when replacing that I don't have convenient access. I've done some testing and haven't noticed any difference in signal strength to clients.

I'd just like to add to this post to say this:
The diversity setting works differently depending on the card I use. I haven't found a good use for it, have tried using 2 antenna's off the same wpci card and it doesn't perform well for me. The signals drop for one or the other. Also, I have done some installs where I couldn't get a connection with diversity. Select the proper antenna port (A or B) and voila, it works. Some cards will work right away on diversity, but I now change them to the proper port for every install. Not sure if anyone has found a good use for it...

Does anyone know whether all new Atheros cards will support both TX and RX diversity in .11g mode? (with an antenna on each port)

I read somewhere before that RX diversity might only work in B mode, due to some timing issues, and apparently RX will always come from the MAIN antenna port in .11g mode. But that might be out of date by now.

When diversity is enabled, the antenna port with the strongest signal to the AP / given client will be used.

To date, there has never been an issue in StarOS or StarV3 with using diversity in .11b or .11g modes.
