The new release can be downloaded from the http://www.star-os.com (http://www.star-os.com/) downloads page.
This is an important update for those using releases v1.1.6 through v1.1.8

Tony,

V3 1.1.5b fixed the problem I was seeing with "N" associations. Will I see these come back if I upgrade to this release, or should I wait for the 1.2 to become more stable as an upgrade path. The 2 WAR's I have are doing great on the 1.1.5b so I'm not in any hurry to upgrade, just not sure at this time which path I should take? Thanks,

Tim Kerns

The new release fixes an issue with 1.1.6 to 1.1.8, so your 1.1.5 is not affected. If you have no issue then don't upgrade. If you do, you should not see any driver issues but to be safe stay where you are until you have an issue that needs fixing.

The 1.1.5 release is part of the development branch with different Atheros support than the release branch (1.1.4, 1.1.6+). Your next logical upgrade step will be the 1.2.x series.

Tony and Lonnie, Thanks....
I'll stay where I am until like you say I need to upgrade to fix a problem. The 1.1.5 is working just great. No "N" problems and it seems to handle the load of 35 clients on one WAR and 45 clients on the other WAR. Lonnie, these are 95% CB3..... prisim based clients. I have added clients to both WAR's this week.... I can pull 2.5 to 3 megs up and down on these.

Would it be possible for you to post V3 1.1.5b WAR version as a download? I have found the same good results with that version I just don't have the WAR version, only WRAP.

I do know that in 1.1.8 the cheap CPE radios that use prism and are not StarOS based send back the same N response. Something to do with sloppy coding in the cheap non StarOS radio driver.

The 1.2 branch is the development branch. We took 1.1.5 and renumbered it and made it the first in that new branch.

OK 1.2 is what I'm running to get the older stuff running so I'm already there. Thanks.

Tkerns and rafamous -
Are you using prism radios or atheros radios for the AP to connect to older clients? If Atheros, aAre you using b mode or g/b mode?

The ones I use Atheros I set to B mode and long preamble no super features. Still getting an N association here and there with anything other than 1.2 in V3.

Thanks. Which specific Atheros card(s) are you using?

I use Cm9 and have been trying the EMP-8602. I have had a couple of the EMP-8602 go 1/2 deaf in a very short amount of time during storms. I like the signal increase but if they brake easy then they are pointless. I have an order in for the 200mw CM9 equivalent.

We had a huge ice/snow storm here in Illinois nothing is making it through the ice right now. So my phone is ringing off of the hook and there's no power at one of my towers. Swapping batteries every 24 hours to keep it running.

It keeps it fun. There's nothing like climbing these towers in the lower teens. Yeah.

One is using an SR2 and the other is using a WLM54G. Both are set to B only. I have tries both short and long preamble and did not see any difference.

I tried the latest 1.2 beta on a WRAP with prisim radio and it didn't work too well, Had to go back to V2 within 20 minutes.

I don't know is it happened in past release of V3. But in 1.1.9, bad result to work in B mode. There's so many packet loss! Even when I put my notebook client (avaya silver pcmcia with star-os router pc installed) beside the AP. Signal is -13, noise -98. I've tried any configuration, several cards (CM9, 8602, WLM54G), but the problem still happened. What's the matter with that?

The signal is far too high to be of use at -13 (type-o?). To get better results, I would suggest dropping to a lower antenna size, or drop the tx power on your system(s) until your signal is within the -50 to -60 range.
