In the very near future we will be removing all CPE and v2 software from our servers and we will make a move to V3 only. Anybody who wishes to continue using the older code will have to ensure they have a copy in a safe place. We will continue to offer licenses for the older code, but we will no longer offer the download. Of course this means there will be no further enhancements of the older code and no security or other fixes.
It is time to move forward.

Before you implement this change completely, will you have fully expanded starutil to be able to poll the same information we can from v2?
I would very much like to switch to V3 after having used it on a test basis the past few months, and recently having had the chance to actually use it in production. However, the basis of my CPE and distro management is information taken from SNMP reads and starutil output. I can't do this with V3 APs or clients currently. I fully understand it is a work in progress. I know very well what it is like to try and maintain two separate codebases for similar projects. I would hope, however, that the functionality of V3 + starutil is expanded before you decide to pull the plug on V2.
Just my meager suggestion.

Read what Lonnie said, take the action he suggests, and you may continue to use V2 just llike you are doing now.

I don't see any problem, the only change from before is that they want to clear the software from their servers... Really no big deal.

The "final" are the last beta upgrades and the ".raw" files are the latest releases and of course, the version to burn to cf.

Hi Mark,
I'm after Star-OS image for soekris board. I have downloaded one from star-os.com more than a year ago and it's working grand on one of my APs till now. The trouble is that I'm not sure what was the name of the file I have used to flash CF at that time. And now I tried soekris.raw from http://neofast.net/users/mark/pics/staros/ and it did not work for me.
I have soekris net4521 board.
Please, help me with identifying the correct image.
Thanks in advance, Yuriy.

I have some soekris .bin's available if they would be helpful to you. Please PM me if you are in need of a link to them.

Hi Mark,
Yes, please, forward me a link(btw, is it the same as above - http://neofast.net/users/mark/pics/staros/ ?).
Although I used to deal rather with .raw files which I was flashing onto CF with the help of physdiskwrite.exe. How can one put .bin image onto CF(sorry for silly question) ? Is it just simply copying .bin file to CF ?
Thanks in advance,
Yuriy
The .bin files are for network updates. You send the.bin file to your already-running StarOS v2 system using starutil and then login and perform a firmware update.
The .raw files are the only ones you can actually physically write to a flash card.

.raw file is exactly what I need then. I remember I was using strrs-2.10.0-4693.raw image for soekris board last time. But I can not see it on the server pointed by Mark(see above). I tried soekris.raw image from the same location but my soekris board couldn't boot(and I know that it's a working unit). Thanks a lot.
Sorry I can't be of much help, I've never used one of those slow 133MHz Soekris boards so I don't necessarily know how to get them going.

I have an old V2 image and the bin file to update it, although I only ever had one of the old soekris boards and it is now retired.

Hope this helps.

Someone on the other list had a verizon card in one of the pcmcia slots for the wan connectivity and a 200mw card as the ap.
Guess it was along the lines of auto wifi. I was thinking it would be a great tool for remote cameras for survellance, like the little parks around here that we don't have coverage to. that people are constantly be car clouted.
Too bad Lonnie didn't have support for that.
I think it was using pebble.
