StarV3 X86-PC Edition is in final testing, however we need some input from those who are currently planning on upgrading their existing StarOS routers and servers.

To try and minimize problems when upgrading to star-v3 in regards to device re-ordering, can you please list the types of ethernets you are currently using, and their etherX designation.

You only need to post this information if you have more than one brand of ethernet in use. (for example, if you have a built-in ethernet that is different than the add-on cards you are using).

Also not the other sticky regarding to the supported ethernet types. This list will grow, so keep an eye on it. It also supports many ethernet types that were not supported in StarOS.

For example, if you have a motherboard that uses the nVidia nForce chipset, with a built-in nForce and/or Marvell Yukon built-in you will encounter a device re-ordering as those interfaces are now supported with StarV3, but not StarOS. To resolve this, you may need to disable those interfaces in the BIOS prior to upgrading the system to star-v3.

We only have one location that has different brands of NIC present in the same system. The integrated NIC (ether1) is Intel 100Pro and the other 2 are Realtek 8139 (ether2 & 3), although we may soon replace the two Realtek cards with a 4 port from Routerboard based on the Via 6105 chips for a couple more policy based routes after the V3 upgrade.

Ethernet device reordering would not be amuch of a problem. Now Atheros device reordering would be a real problem, especially if we do the upgrade remotely. But I assume this is not a problem, if it is I would just have to make sure I am on the local wired interface when doing the upgrades to change any setting back if needed.

Keep up the good work.

Atheros reordering is not an issue. The only issue comes where there are different drivers for each brand of card.

Looks like your system will be able to be upgraded without issues.

The only oddball I've got that I'm worried about is a SiS900 PCI Fast Ethernet (rev:144). The rest are Intel Eth Pro's and a few Realtek's. Sorry, no Star info as this box with the SiS in it is running Tik for now :(

The SiS900 is very common, and well supported in the X86-PC edition.
