I am sure someone will flame me for this, but, Can I use RIP on a WRAP to route a redundant link to a site with auto failover. Not to mention, have both of these connections going to the same ethernet port on WRAP after a switch with different subnets. My network is fully routed with RIP running on all hops. I would love to set-up some kind of redundancy but I wonder about the default gateway setting on the WRAP, if that will change automatically or not. Or does it not matter, I would think it would.
Thanks, and don't hurt me too bad here.

No flames required and everybody wants that. RIP does not like to have multiple connections and will get confused if you give it multiple paths. It is supposed to just ignore the extras and use the one with the lowest hop count, but it quite frequently just has a fit and stops doing anything.
This why we have the OLSR mesh routing. It is well suited to multiple connections and works very well, but until we get V3 for WRAP it is only available for the WAR.
You could also try OSPF, but be aware that there are many issues with it and OSPF is quite complicated and finicky to setup. I suggest using OLSR.

Gunther,
I have a redundant path set up with RIP and it appears to be working - 2 days now on the bench. I'm unplugging cables and powering down WRAPS randomly to get it to crash, and so far it has always come right back up. Except of course for those times I pulled too many cables and left no possible route .
If stays running for a few more days I'll try deploying in the field and post the results. I'm playing with the settings still to tweak the failover speed.

Roger that, although I think you would not be the first one to try it. I wasn't able to test very well in production, so I left it alone. I would still be interested in this function for the future. Although if V3 works properly for me I may just look into OSLR as lonnie suggested. Currently RIP is working for me, just no redundency. All my links are straight to the location and no failover at this time.

I've been running 2 days now, and every time I walk by the bench I pull a plug to kill a link. I'll play a little more then try a loop we have in the field.
