This is a client of mine. There's no mention of my company or StarOS, but I opted for the money instead of the fame.

They have a 12 mile Orthogon link over to the offshore buoy (Orthogon was the obvious choice because of the buoy's 3-D movement) and about a 3 mile PtP link from their base to us powered by StarOS v2, CM9s using 802.11a in turbo mode, VIA EPIA 5000 533MHz boards on each side. The link has 0.7ms of latency and does about 40mbit with non-compressable data and about 90mbit with compressable data where it tops out the CPU.

Everything they do is going through that atheros 11a/turbo link to us which then goes to a 100mbit metro ethernet to more routers we run in the Terremark datacenter (AKA "The NAP of the Americas") in Miami.

Suffice it to say, they are getting a very solid 40mbit Internet connection from us for less than 25% recurring of what it would have cost them to get a DS-3. The initial cost was obviously not bad either. We were also able to get the link up and running for them quickly when the DS-3 would never have been installed and turned up in time for their mission.

I've made small mentions of their setup in the past, but they have a big mission going on called NEEMO9 that involves the Canadian Space Agency and NASA so it's really worth pointing them out at the moment.

They had their guys in the underwater habitat talking to the guys up in the international space station through VoIP this week.
