Bear with me. I would like to see a version of star-os that would run from a bootable CD.
Pop the CD in to a laptop or other PC and use for testing without the hassle of other solutions or a CPE. Particularly useful for antenna adjustment without giving over a laptop to other things.
Ideally, it would come up asking me for the channel, distance, wep key etc. and go straight into the new signal strength screens.
I would also have the ability of all the other functions for more in depth testing. I have come to the conclusion that staros is the only product that has everything I need!
Would this make a neat ISO image for download guys?
Sounds like an interesting idea.

I second this! This would work great for low-tech installers. Turn it on, align the antenna, done. No need to mess with windows, log in, right subnet, etc.
This could be a great thing for us! It would also be great in a handheld like an IPaq.

-CD-
I have only recently starting playing with Star-OS while figuring out what kind of WISP setup I would like to build. Being able to load Star-OS from a CD would be very useful for testing. I would have liked being able to use my Windows laptop as a test system without wiping out the disk. I can see that the current licensing method would be problematic but what if it only ran 2hrs max between reboots?
-IPaq PocketPC-
Since Star-OS is its own OS it would need a PocketPC OS loader that would backup the current Windows CE ROM image to a CF card then replace it with the Star-OS image. When you were done then an option in the Star-OS software would reload the PocketPC OS to ROM again from the CF card.
I currently use my PocketPC with the Agere card and Intersil card drivers along with MiniStumbler and PocketStumbler to do testing against my base antenna from a remote location and look for obvious default configured home APs that might interfere with my setup.
Having Star-OS loadable on it would be a great tool. Heck, an older IPAQ 206mhz unit with a dual PC card sleeve, and a power supply might even make good basic CPE/Router device since you could run two radios or radio/ethernet card.
