Hi

I've searche the forums abount grounding issues.
There were several issues but from some threads the "last"
answer was missing.
So who can give infos about grounding?
Is wold be nice to add this to the faq forum.

Do you grounding the antenna?
Do you grounding the wrap (or other) board?
Do you grounding the ap case?
Where do you ground (top, bottom both ends etc. etc.)

What is the "standart" lightning / grounding procedure.

Say for example

AP-pigtail-gas tube ligthning protector - antenna ligthning protector to ground
ap case to ground.
ap and antenna connectors are together at top than
go down with one cable (xx mm^2) or use leg of antenna is antennas is grounded ...

Ethernet cable: How do you ground it (to surpess noise)
at the bottom only, at the top with the AP, antenna only
or both ends ...

Ionnie wrote in one articel that they "typically drive in three ground rods, one for each leg."
That's nice but the tower is painted, isn't it?
How are the ap etc. grounded over the legs at the top or a serperate grounding cable??

Can anyone give hints and exp

Thanks

I ground everything. I have found once I do, the CPE becomes part of the house and they just run. The same with the AP side. If I have to, I will run a wire all the way to the ground on a tower to make sure I have a solid ground.

I ground the antennas with the gas tube & ground wire.

I ground the cases with a wire to ground.

I ground the ethernet cable. This comes with the Tranzeo CPE that I use

I have had too many radios go out in my area and once I started grounding. Replacements stopped.

I recently had a huge tornado come through my area and I lost 1 AP and one CPE. Both had not been grounded. They are now.

I noticed others not having any problem when not grounding.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply rafamous.

There are some more questions.
Do you ground both ends of the ethernet cable?
I'm running PoE to Ap which is on a tower.
Which end should I ground, PoE end at bottem of tower
or cable at the top and of course should I connect the shield of the ethernet cable to the PoE ground?

Have you grounded the tower?

Thanks

I do ground my towers. If there's nothing around to ground to, I will drive an 8 foot copper rod into the ground and ground to that.

I used to run a wire from the top from the radio to the ground and from the bottom of the ethernet to the same ground.

I now simply ground at the bottom of the ethernet through the grounding POE that comes with the Tranzeo. They use the brown wires in the cat5 to do this. So I just strip back a little axtra at the tip and use one of the brown wires to hook to the nut at the top. Saves alot of time and money.

For me at least, if I don't ground even one thing on the tower, that is the thing that will get zapped. I must live in an electric area.

Feel free to ask. I have only been doing this for over two years but will share what I know.
