How about this:

http://www.compulab.co.il/486core.htm

Would like to see prices like those to the end user, for sure.

However, by the few, it's really spendy.

There is no reason our software shouldn't work on them, however the SC400 processor is not the quickest beast out there.

This one might work quite well, though the price is unknown.

We have about 40 remote Lucent AP-1000's (converted from COR/ROR)
and are seriously thinking about moving to the star-os.

Any chance the star-os can be dumped onto an ap-1000 hardware?

If not, is the teletronics unit a good replacement? is their ap software
for the cpr similar or just get the hardware and star-os?

We recommend the Soekris units. They have dual PCMCIA and that can come in real handy.

do the soekris units have enough a$$ to run as a router?

I cannot really answer that. We know they can handle 1 channel of 802.11b at full throughput. They can certainly handle a receive unit and a new AP to extend the range as the same bandwidth is just being brought in and pushed out. That would be the typical use and I am confident they can gandle that.

They might be a bit sluggish with 2 separate 11 mbit AP from their Ethernet, but they would more than handle that if your eventual target was the Internet through a T1. They can easily push 6 mbps, so the 1.5 mbps of the T1 is easy to fill for the Soekris.

cool.. I just recieved my first soekris today, these units are quite nice, especially with the case. I have to go get a compactflash card and writer so I can play a little.

Lonnie / Tony,
I am having a wierd problem with the Soekris 4521. It will start to boot and display "Loading operating system, Please Wait.. " and then after about 7 seconds it will just reboot.. I have reloaded the flash, even tried a different flash with the same results. I will boot fin to a flash with MS-DOS just fine.

If the flash is Ok, I would suspect one of the soekris boards components have failed, possibly the memory. MS DOS is very lax on requirements which might explain why it boots.

Do you have another soekris to try the flash on?

which pc-card radios are best suited for use with the soekris net4521? We're about to install star-os router and run 2 channels with 120* antennas for testing purposes. We have some Orinoco cards but were also looking to buy some prism 2/2.5 cards for comparison purposes.

Should we bother? If so, which prism 2/2.5 cards w/external antenna connectors are recommended? No more than 50mW, we're stuck in ETSI land with a 20dBm EIRP.

We have the best support for Lucent cards and they will be our first choice. After that we like the zcom products and we have heard that Senao cards are also very good.

I had the same problem with the Soekris boards when we got some. Turns out, 2 wireless cards plugged in is more than the power supply I had plugged into it could handle. It did the same thing, just kept rebooting. Swapped to a higher output PS and the problem went away.

I have a couple of outdoor boxes that are using the XI-1500s for the backhaul and TT-CPE (Star OS) for the AP.
I want to upgrade them and I don't have a whole lot of room.
I have been checking out the Soekris 4521-30.
They list it as Board/Case and US PS for $263.00.

If I am correct I will get a board that has two PCMCIA slots that I can plug in 2 Silver Cards with no problem.

I will have 2 Ethernet ports:
Do they get cross connected to make a repeater or routed via internal setup? (You can tell I am a hardware guy)

I will need to purchase a 16M CF Memory module.

I didn't see anything about a PCI slot. I thought I read that dkii loaded up 2 Lucent radio cards then also added a WMP-11. What am I missing here?

Router version software will work OK?

Where to buy in US for best price etc.

Thanks guys,

tony

The Soekris dual-pcmcia board also includes a MiniPCI slot, which you can use a WMP11 MiniPCI Prism 2.5 card, giving you three radios.

The Router Edition will work well on these systems, though you will not have access to the Console menu (Available on CPE Edition only) which isn't much of a problem since you can now restore the factory defaults remotely.

The two ethernet ports are independent, and can be routed or bridged together if needed.

Thanks!

Does this mean that I loose the ability to use the pretty menu that shows associations and all the features?

I am still confused.

Not at all. SSH is still there (allong with everything you are used too), but there is a serial port (com1) console that is available on the CPE SBC Editions that allow you to restore factory defaults, and also watch it's bootup progress. This will not be present if you use the Router Edition, that's all.

Thanks!

"Blinding Flash of the Obvious."

You folks are looking for something more like the TT CPR with multi ports.
I am looking for a multiport version of the ASUS MOBO I use for my WILA boxes.
In that case I treat this board just like the ASUS as I never used a serial port there anyway.
I got tripped up on the meaning of Console.

By Jove I think I've got it.

Time to buy a couple I guess.
Many thanks yet again,
