View Full Version : Bridging and RIP on VX

I had RIP up and running for about a month on a VX AP PTP. Seemed to work just fine. Tonight I tried to replace the SU with a WAR and all of a sudden RIP died and refused to come back up. I had to enable bridging on the AP and put the wrap back in the SU position.
I just see no routing entries propigating whatsoever and the VX boards have no ability to troubleshoot anything.
I desperately need a stable solution for my backhaul that is faster than WRAP.
Are there any known issues with bridging on VX?
What is the difference between Wireless Client mode and Wireless Client Bridge?
If an interface has RIP enabled but no link on the interface does that break RIP?

I am not trying to be negative, just trying to fix my problems. But I really need answers to these questions.

If an interface has RIP enabled but no link on the interface does that break RIP? (has this been tested)
I am doign another tower climb Saturday night after midnight to try again but I need to figure out my strategy. I do plan to bench everything beforehand but this will cut my time spent a great deal.

Wireless client mode is plain client for routing. Wireless Client Bridge is a wireless cleint that is a bridge.
I'm not sure why you would use RIP if the unit is bridged. RIP is not necessary.
Issues with bridging --> I guess you have not read the topics after we released it. Bridging is the reason why we abandoned VxWorks and have been scrambling to get a Linux version out the door.
If you have the system bridged then it requires that all clients (on the board) be in Client Bridge mode and not just simply Client mode.
RIP will only announce for devices that are active, so with no connection it does not harm anything.

There are hundreds of posts and no central authoritative source.
I enabled bridging after RIP was not working.
The client and all other routers are statically routed.
I want to change the client to a WAR as it is CPU is stuck at 100%. But as RIP randomly stops working I cannot use it.
What are the symtoms of bridging problems on VX? my search turned up hundreds of results and I cannot find the specifics.
Our network is 100% routed and the VX radios are essentially just talking to one PC based router at each end.

A simple bridge as you plan will be OK. The types that failed were multi segment bridges with 100's of customers.

Cool, I only have one host/router on a cross over cable on the client side so I will try it tonight.
