View Full Version : How to restrict people with VX?

Hi everyone,

I got real excited when VX came out and bought 3 WAR boards, and put two of them up (one of them on a water tower). I figured I would just give everyone free access for now, until the new version of the software came out...

Now that we have heard V3 could be some time away, I'm trying to figure out how exactly I am going to restrict access to only my paying customers??

Since bridging isn't an option due to known bugs, am I able to set up a Star Server and have it run Hot Spot and PPPoE for these two war boards? Will PPPoE or Hotspot even work if the star sever is on a different subnet from the WAR Boards?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks...
John

There is no way to do this at the moment. By the time you redo your install to have another unit controlling the system we will have the replacement. So please be patient.

What is your experience with multi users on the AP? Several others have said it is not a good thing but I think they were mostly all bridged.

I am fully routed, with no bridging in place. I find that as long as I remember to reboot it at least every 24-36 hours it gives me no problems. If I should forget, it seems to lock up, and requires me powercycle the unit. But as long as I remember to reboot it every night before I go to bed, no problem... I've been running since the middle of December. It's a 4 port WAR board, one for a dedicated 5.8 backhaul, and the rest as sectors on a 2.4 ghz rig. The 5.8 backhaul shoots over to the watertower, which also has a 4 port WAR; 1 is a backhaul in, one is a backhaul out, and two are for 2.4 ghz sectors.

PS.. Cant' wait till version 3 ;-)

Seems we have same problems, but even when i reboot it every night, it locks up under load, but reboot is enough then .....

I have a WAR4 on a Water tower with hyperlinks 5.8ghz quad sector array 4 17dbi 90 degree sectors each individually fed. only 2 of the radios have clients right now. Each client is on the WAR APs are WAR2 boards set in Access point client mode. Since I started routing and unchecked bridge all interfaces and switched every box to ap client mode I have not had to reboot anything for almost 3 1/2 weeks and still running smooth. I have been trying to get things working properly since Oct. But I think I have it know. I am glad to not be climbing that water tower anymore. But the WARS working as clients works great and I dont seem to have any problem justifying the cost as I only provide access to business clients and only have a few clients as it is, but the WARS seem pretty good as clients so far in a ptmp situation. We'll see what happens as the load increases. My clients seem to being seeing better throughput then the wraps have in the past.

Check the web site for new options. A WAR client in Rootenna is now an option or you can buy your own single radio WAR cards and use your own enclosure and antenna.
