View Full Version : Okay, how do you power the darn thing up?

I just got in a pair of quad-port WAR boards. (I really only need one radio on each, but hey, it never hurts to have spare CM9 cards.)

The boards came with a POE injector, but no DC adapter to go with it. (Which is spelled out on the ordering page, but I mis-read it. IMO it probably should be more explicitly stated that no power adapter is included. Maybe even sell the appropriate adapters so I don't have to go hunting for them or posting threads about it...)

What voltage should I be supplying to the POE injector to make the board light up? I've tried basically every random power supply in my office I can find, and so far, none of them appear to make the board boot. (I'm assuming that once the board boots, the little green LED will light up or something.)

Also, which Ethernet port is the POE port? (Hopefully I didn't blow up the board with the testing I've done trying to get the board up and running... :) )

You can use a 12-24v DC adaptor. The POE is plugged into the first Ethernet which is the one nearest the edge of the board. (the one on the right).

Joy. I've got nothing in that range handy, that I can find. Any suggestions on where I can order said DC brick? Post direct links and I'll send you candy. :)

Depends on where you are.

http://www.digikey.com

North America - T943-P5P-ND (15VDC 1A)
Universal - T375-P5P-ND (15VDC 1A)

or...

http://www.radioshack.com

Transformer model 273-1779 (12V 1A) with Adapt-a-plug model 273-1716 (Size M, 5.5mm x 2.1mm) (North America only)

or...

Walmart/Kmart should have "universal power adapters" in the electronics sections that should do 12VDC at 1A with the appropriate adapter plug with it.

Hm. No Radio Shack store has that specific part in stock, at least none within fifty miles.

Also, per an email from Lonnie, the board apparently really wants 24V, not 15V, and I can't find that part either :(

I'm sure I'll get it all sorted out, though. Thanks especially for the plug dimensions, that alone will save me some time.

You could try Digi-Key (www.digikey.com) P/N P370-P5P-ND (expensive - $38, universal - includes various plug adapters) or T944-P5P-ND (about $15, North America input voltage and plug). Both are 24V 1A.

Or, Jameco (www.jameco.com) P/N 320311PS (about $15, universal - North America plug style) - 24V 1.6A.
