Hello,

After excitedly installing StarOS into my soekris 4801 I was asked by a friend to borrow my system... 3 weeks ago. So, to pass my time I have been browsing the posts here, trying to think of things to do when I get my equipment back.

One of the things I frequently saw were links to websites offering calculators on wireless formulas. Well, I figured that when I was ready to go and try stuff I was not always going to have internet access to these sites so...

This is a small PalmOS freeware program I've written holding all of the calculations I could find. It currently needs PalmOS 3.5+ (though I could possibly put together a 3.1, 3.3 version with testing) and needs the included mathlib library for doing stuff like log10 of things (palmOS cannot natively do those calculations).

So, if anyone has a Palm device and the time to try it out I would be interested in any feedback.

NOTE: this is freeware and I put it together in my spare time. I am sure there are lots of ways to make it better. The biggest issue I have had is making the calculations on empty fields.... so please fill in all of the fields... even if the value is a zero. I've also only tested it in PalmOS3.5 as that is all I have.

If only we could have something like that for PPC. We assign all our installers a PocketPC with a wireless card for doing signal checks.

For the moment I do not have any access to PocketPC development stuff. You could try this http://www.styletap.com/ however. I have not tried it myself since I do not have a PocketPC but there is a good chance that this would allow my application to run on the PocketPC.

Anyone care to post the equations? Might be a nice addition to UtiliStar and maybe a PPC app someday...

Which PPC would you recommend?

Dear Skaught,

What type of PPC that do you use for your installer ?
And what's type of PCMCIA card that could we use for 5 GHz ?

Thx
