NOTE: This release requires the StarOS Firmware upgrade utility (starutil) version 1.4 or newer.

Updates since 1.10.6.1:

Fixed: RTS Threshold settings on Agere and Prism 2/2.5 cards weren't being applied.

Fixed: RIP, OSPF and BGP will no longer forget their previously learnt routes when the system settings have been activated.

Updated: SSH Server no longer reports the name of unknown login users, as to avoid security problems (such as accidental password exposure, etc.) when using remote syslog service.

Updated: All signal readings are now in dBm for Prism 2/2.5 cards in AP and Client mode. (notes on association dBm readings will be posted in the FAQ section soon)

** For those who try the new routing code, please report your success, failures or problems. **

-------------

NOTE to PCI Tulip card users: The Ethernet card ordering has been changed since version 1.10.1 in that the Tulip-based PCI cards are now detected LAST. Please review your setup before performing an upgrade as your cables may need to be switched around if you use this type of card.

NOTE to Intersil Prism 2.5 card users: To operate as an Access Point, or use the new volatile firmware update feature, your card must have primary firmware v1.0.7 or higher. To check and see what version your card uses, you can look in the Kernel message log. Prism 2, and other brands of cards do not have this requirement. To solve this problem, simply obtain a Windows firmware upgrade utility from the card manufacturer. (The firmware utility will upgrade both the primary and secondary firmware on your card)

In the PPPOE support do you have encryption compiled in? If not, do you plan on adding it?

Which PPPoE encryption method are you looking for? All methods available for PPPoE are supported. Authentication methods include PAP at the moment, but will contain an option to use either CHAP or PAP for PPPoE client & radius authentication in a later release.

MPPE is actually what I was looking for. I have authenticated with Windows XP and Windows 98 both using RASPPPOE and saw no encryption negotiated. When I required encryption my connection was denied.

I know that on my own existing PPPOE server I do have CHAPv2 enabled. In fact, on the server side it is required so if the client isn't encrypted they don't get to connect.

You say that all methods for PPPOE are available. What encryption other than MPPE are you using for PPPOE to encrypt the entire session?

I think you need to implement chap support, that way your radius server can also be used to support the pptp server... Not to mention the fact password encryption is pretty much a must, as it would be trivial to defeat the pppoe security layer otherwise. I vote to support microsoft-centric password encryption since everything else seems to support these ad-hock standards sooner or later, so that leaves you fairly compatable.

In the initial PPPoE & Radius release, MPPE is not supported, though we have finished support for it, and it will be included in one of the next releases.

We will support authentication via pap, chap, mschap, mschap-v2, as well as support for MPPE encryption (40 & 128-bit, stateful & stateless modes). Our Radius server will also be updated with support for these new features as well.

Thanks!

We are getting ready to release a new beta in the next day or two, however MPPE for PPPoE will not be included due to reliability issues.

We are still evaluating pptp, however our pppoe server is functional and working nicely as of a few releases ago.

I am aiming to get pptp server support in v1.11.8, with high encryption support. This will use the same radius authentication mechanism as our pppoe server.

The client versions of pptp, pppoe and dchp are still being worked on.

Cool! Do you guys plan on offering the pptp client in the cpe edition, or will it be a router/server feature only?

These new features are exclusive to the Router and Server Editions due to the CPE size constraints.
