Is there any way that STAR-OS could detect what manuf card is in the slot and apply best driver for that card.?
Like what you are making available for PRISM 2 cards but maybe for Lucent and some off the others.
We already have this feature in our latest releases.
Prism 2/2.5 have secondary f/w v1.5.6 which can be enabled in the configuration dialog.
As of version 1.10.x, Lucent cards older than f/w v7.52.1 are automatically updated to version 7.52.2. There are no options to enable or disable this feature.
Of course, any future cards that we support (such as 802.11a, g, etc) will have similar abilities.
Note that all our firmware updates are temporary. The original firmware will be restored automatically when the system is powered off, or the card is ejected.

Is this firmware 7.52.2 a different kind of firmware than 8.72?

It's older than 8.72, but is a very reliable version to load onto a card that contains ancient and / or unreliable firmware.

I have found some real old Agere and AVAYA cards in my system.
Can they be loaded with Orinoco drivers?
I believe I tried once and the updater found that they were not Orionoco and wouldn't complete the process.
What is the best way to deal with them.?
Just use the volitale FW ?
If you cannot find appropriate drivers and firmware for Windows, simply use our latest 1.10.xx release which will automatically load the volatile version on which is a huge improvement over the really old firmware releases.

David, you can try using the wavelan firmware updater from agere if you physically have the card. It will update it to 8.42.
