I would like to see support for multiple IP addresses in the ping watchdog. Perhaps even more options that failed pings will trigger. For instance, sending an email, page the admin, etc. I know that I am using this software in a router with 4 network interfaces, and all I can monitor at this time is one of those 4 networks.

Thank you for the request. We will see what we can do for you in this regards the next time we revamp our ping watchdog support.

Thanks!

multi-ip's would be good, but I would leave the other options to an outside, chances are if the device is not getting ping responses, then it probably doesn't have external connectivity, thus not able to send emails/pages. Something outside of your network would be a better solution for that, and have it ping each router, then send you some sort of notice if one of them starts timing out.

I have other monitors running. I have Star-OS running as a core router, though. If this router is unable to reach something, then that segment, along with the routers/servers on it, do not have the ability to perform the notification service they are designed to do.

I realize that everyone's network is different, and this may not be useful to all, but is a relatively easy option to add (email notices are at any rate). I mentioned the other options just to help explain what I meant.

The ping watchdog is still on our list, but hasn't been updated yet.

Any updates on this?

Take a look at Snips. It has a lot of different monitors that you can configure to do just about anything. I have mine setup to email my pager and I'm planning on adding a package to dial my cell phone one of these days....

How about an additional feature on the Ping Monitor that would allow me to put in a list of IP's and say if it can Ping 2 out of 10 of those IP's it is good. That would enable us to ping clients off of an AP to make sure the AP is up and running while not depending on certain clients to be powered up.

Still need multiple 'fixed' ips to ping for backhauls etc, but the variable list is the only way I can come up with to make sure the AP is broadcasting.
