Okay, here's my stupid question of the day.

I am currently setting up a 'POC WISP' with about 5 to 10 homes in my neighborhood (loosely qualifies as a neighborhood). My neighbors and I will share a T1. My current proposed configuration is:

CSU/DSU -- Cisco 1602 w/T1wic -- Linux/StarOs/??? -- switch/hub -- to an internal network and also to a smartbridge Pro Outdoor Router with a 120 degree/12dbi antenna. Client side is a Smartbridge CPE, connect to an antenna on oneside and a to their network/PC.

What I need to know, does it make sense to use the StarOS in the proposed configuration, or should I just roll my own Firewall/DNS/Cache server.

Jim

If you are comfortable with Linux and you are not using StarOS for any of the wireless features then you can save some money and DIY.

Also, we still have the FREE picoBSD image on our downloads page and it has almsot everything you require for Ethernet based routers.
