How do I interpert the wireless link values of quality, signal, and noise?

I have a link that has signal 148/148 and noise of 11/148. The quality is normally 92/148 but it sometimes varies between 51 and 92.

An explaination of these values would be helpful.

Signal is best at 100% or 148/148.
Noise should 0% for the ultimate, so 11/148 is pretty low.
Quality should be 100% so 92/148 is very good. We have seen that quality should be above 25 for full data transfer rate.

Is the Quality value actually shown as 92/148? It should ready 92/92. (which is the best singnal quality you can get).

My mistake, the quality is 92/92 but varies to as low as 44. As I watch the software automatically update the status, I see the quality value changing - up and down. Most of the time, it is at 92/92.

As RF conditions change, this value will fluctuate, but it looks like you have a very good link.

Thanks!

Quality at 92/92 sometimes drops to 72/92 signal 148/148 noise 15/148 but it still drops packets from a ping is there something else that is interfering with this? Even pinging from customer end to tower and is dropping packets does this have something to do with the hidden node?

What is your packet loss rate over 100 pings at normal size, and at size 1472?

How many customers do you have on your AP, and how much traffic does it see on average?

Pinging the customer with standard 32 bytes at 100, 85 recieved 15 dropped, pinging with 1472 bytes at 100, 75 recieved 25 lost with 300Kbps through the access point with 20 other customers Associated at the time of the ping test.

What brand of AP are you using, and are you pinging the AP from the customer, or through more than one wireless hop?

It is a XI1000 Zecomax

It is a XI1000 Zecomax

This could be a simple case that the XI1000 is at capacity, as they are pretty much designed for small micro-cells.

What kind of throughput can you pull through your link, if you do a download test from one of your local servers?

We changed the ap to a cpe with 2.21.1 os and we are going to see how it works we thought that the xi1000 might be close to max capacty, so far so good, we will see

Will do so far so good with 43 clients and we still have a few dropped packets in a ping but not as bad as with the XI1000. So we will see. I will keep you posted
