hello folks,

not StarOS question, but little annoyance for me : auto-negotiation was causing troubles, when it was switched off, everything works smoothly. With auto-nego, we had like 200kB/s transfer rate across router - without, 10MB/s...

WTF?

bye, mp3turbo.

Can you provide us some more information, such as the versions you tried, and whether this occurs with the later v2.00.3b3 release?

Thanks.

hi tony,

this is not problem of StarOS nor StarOS was used on that machine - it was just nice plain Linux box (Debian I think). My question was aimed at hardware Network Interface Card / Router cooperation.

btw, can you tell me, what version of 3Com driver do you have in your system? I don't have spare machine handy to find out. You can PM me.

thnx, mp3turbo.

cisco as alwats, i have seen it on alot of networks using cisco. Auto-negoatiation at cisco with other brands does not work very well. I've seen it on media converters, lan's, wan's and it can be a pain in the ass sometime.

Have not looked for it, but is it possible to lock it in star-os? of not, it's certenly something to ask for :)

Auto-neg is one of those standards that isn't standard.
I've had auto-neg problems with almost all network vendors -3com, cisco, allied-telesyn and various cheapo no brand devices - at sometime or other.
Given the choice, I always use intel nic's - don't know why but I've never had a problem with those. Also if you use the e100 (Intel) driver then vlans work correctly with clients set to mtu 1500.
