Is Starlink the recommended way to PtP or is AP to 1 Client recommended?
If you wish to do a simple PtP link, it is best (and more secure) to do the StarLink PtP with the Special protocols disabled. This mode is not AP or Ad-Hoc so people will not be able to associate to either end.
Thanks!

What about performance without the Special protocols enabled? Is the StarLink PtP still better?
The performance will be comprable to AP/Client without using the special protocols.
If you are using desktop systems for each end (ie Celeron / Duron 300+), then you can enable the special protocols to give your link a little boost. Do not use the Long Distance option (under the StarLink dialog), as it is being phased out as it has been relaced by the option on the main dialog.

Does the starlink long distance option only apply to orinoco cards?
The StarLink option itself is Orinoco-only for now, however the StarLink long distance option is being phased out as the new distance setting on the main dialog has replaced it, and works much better.
Thanks!

Ok, so in general, it is the Orinoco support that has made the distance setting even possible...

Correct. The distance and StarLink are only available on Agere (ORiNOCO) cards.
Thanks!
