When a unit is being used as a client device, in station mode, would it be possible for us to have to enter the channel number thus saving that unit from having to scan frequencies.

The software does the scan as part of preparation for the DFS features that will be required for use in some of the bands. It is a feature we also want, but we will have to be careful and not break anything that will be required for future use. The lock is pretty quick with the new beta code. Are you running the latest?

Yep, it's pretty quick. I just thought it might be nice to do away with it entirely.
I've not got my head around the point of dfs yet.
Some documents make it sound as if the systems will be able to change freq themselves in order to avoid interference - not sure I like that idea. I prefer to know what freq's my systems are on - if I need to change them the I do it.

The whole point of DFS is to allow you to use bands that would normally be forbidden since they have periodic and very essential radar users. Anyone using those bands MUST move at the first sign of any radar signal. It is not optional and it is not something that can wait for you to get around to it. It must immediately move and free up the band.
There is provision for it migrate back after 30 minutes.

Ahh - I read a bit more and it's slowly starting to make some sense.
If I'm reading things correctly, it will only move freq' if it detects a radar signal that it mustn't interfere with.
I had thought at first that systems would change freq' in order to avoid interference from other wlan users - I could envisage that this would in some case result in an AP constantly on the move.

I can actually see one major problem with DFS. If a CPE detects a radar signal and decides it has to move, what happens to the access point. It is possible for the AP not to detect the radar would the client somehow tell the AP that it has to move.

The client obviously does no good to move. It simply stops sending until it no longer hears the radar then it waits a bit longer and resumes. The only one to initiate a channel move is the AP.
