Using StarOS router, orinocco silver radios, soekris net4521 sbc, pigtail, 5M rg-58 cable, StellaDoradus 12dB 120*x15* sectoral antenna - http://www.stelladoradus.com/2.4base.shtml - mounted on the side of a lift shaft on top of the tallest building in the south of Ireland...

what radius should I expect to have a solid 1Mb/s signal? we have not been able to get the DEM data from the Ordinance Survey yet to be able to use Radio Mobile to plot this, so we're trying to take a SWAG. Irish & EU/ETSI regs require us to be at no more than 100mW EIRP.

Anyone with a guess?

Using the equipment you specify I would expect you to have a range of at least 2 to 3 miles. I am on shaky ground because I assume this means you cannot use high gain antennas because the radio outout plus the antenna gain has to be less than 100 mW.

We use 15 to 18 dB antennas for our client ends and we can easily go 10 miles with 4 mbps. To me it looks like your gain has to be under 10 dB so it is a fair estimate o 2 to 3 miles.
