Can you all submit the information on what CPE brand(s) you all using for residential/commercial deployments here? Good or bad?

I've seen local stores sells D-Link, Netgear, and Linksys wi-fi radio/AP/routers at the prices that average customer can afford. I would like to make a list of recommended CPE brand(s). So that way, the customers who want to sign up and can purchase which radios locally or order online at their freedom of choices. Just like some of you who used to be in the dial-up business, made lists of good/bad modems like El Cheapo ones that are not connect to your RAS (remote access server) like Portmasters, Max TNTs.

Hello?

Well, I guess any wi-fi cards/APs/routers can communicate well with StarOS AP. Here's the partial list of CPE brands used for deployments by WISPs.

D-Link - more reliable than Linksys, less lock-ups?
------
DWL-810+
DWL-900+ Comment: rock solid
DWL-900AP
DWL-520 (non '+') Comment: Revision 'A' and 'B' cards in all modes of operation, and the revision 'C' cards in client-only mode (only recommended if client is close to AP).

Lucent Orinoco - Silver & Gold PCMCIA cards and USB Clients (silver/gold)

Linksys WET 11 - mixed results? someone posted about using D-Link PoE unit solved the lock-up issues.

What about other brands i.e. NetGear, Belkin or Microsoft Home/Boardband Networking products?

Feel free to add yours here and tell us what your experiences with them, etc...

Thanks!

I second the Dlink 810+ it has been a solid performer for me.

I use them indoor though.

whats the range in terms of distance that you get out of these CPEs, the D-link with external directional antennas

thanks

I have had several 810+ clients running outdoor in a RooTenna (with PoE) for 3 months no. It has never locked up or had any issue at all. However, I find the firmware too limited (no proper diagnostic tools and does not show signal strength or anything like that). For that reason I will probably be switching to osBridges in future, and WET11 or CB3's (possibly) for indoor. Also looking at a number of solutions from Demarc, who I have experience with, and know their stuff works.

I am having no luck connecting a 810+.

works fine to connect clients just with the wireless cards but if they want to network more systems in the home they need another solution. I am having no luck connecting witha 810. any step by step instructions that I am missing or is it simply my mistakes or a combination of both

What problems are you having with the 810+? The ones that I have rolled out are still going strong. We are also currently evaluating Tranzeo's CPE (we have 4 test units from them, with 3 of those deployed at the moment). Even at close to 10 miles, the link is still stable, with an SNR of about 20, and signal strength being recorded by StarOS as -58.

unable to get it to pass any information, I assume you just put the ethernet inti a router/switch

Are you using ACL ?? If I remember right to have a DWL 810/+ run you need to enter the mac address of the bridge & client attached to it for it to pass traffic.. I am using the Wet11 V2 in a rootenna they seem to work great. (Knock, Knock) I use the stock PS in a homemade POE setup up to about 75' I might go with a 6volt wall wart to see if signal strength goes up a little, because I think I am only getting about 4-4.5volts up to the antenna now..
