connection rate settings seem to not work

Running CPE build 2911. I have an orinoco card in the slot, and have auto rate data select unchecked, and the rate radio button set to 1 Mbit, and save and a reboot, and it still connects at 11Mbit with my laptop. I set up a marginal situation, and the link shifts between 11 mbit and 5.5 mbit... even though auto rate is off, and the rate selector is set to 1mbit...

So what gives? Do I not understand how this works, or is this a bug?

I've tried it with auto rate select on and off, it doesn't seem to do anything according to the association list for the card.

There are a few things here that I need to know. The rate selector does work, however.

What side are you setting to 1Mbit, and which side are you seeing 11 / 5.5Mbit?

If you are setting 1Mbps on an AP, your clients will then be downloading at 1Mbps, however they can still upload at 11Mbis (as shown on the association screen) unless they, themselves are also set to 1Mbps.

Keep in mind, that Rate selecting is only for TX, as the radio has no control over what the peer unit is going to transmit at, so you have to set both sides accordingly.
