Does anyone make a cheap receive amp? I don't want any transmit amplification, as I'm at full legal already, but it would be really cool to have some receive amps that could improve sensitivity.

I suppose I could use a lower power card and an amp, but it seems like a receive only amp would be cheaper.... Of course it still needs to have the send/receive switch.

RF Linx will custom set the Rx/Tx gain for you, order a 16db rx/2db tx gain(for connector loss) PCB amp, get 10 of em and their $99.

George,

Why the need for an amp? Are you using .b mode on the Atheros 5212 cards?

I'm setting up an AP with a Netgear WG-311 card running in .b mode

(star-os 1.13.3, power set to 20, speed 11, ack 450, Channel 11, 20ft LMR-400, 1ft LMR-195 pigtail (N-Male to RP-SMA), 12dbi 120 degree sector)

to test the throughput vs a hermes card. My client CPE is a Smartbridge (Atmel chipset). I'm also testing a Star CPE as well (using a ruby card).

Test will be at 5 miles from AP.

Would like not to use amps, but would that type of amp setup help?

Thanks

A receive amp can increase range without making more noise or exceeding FCC limits.

But if I buy cheaper cards, and then buy $100 amps, I can probably do the same thing. This doesn't help with Atheros costs, but that is a different issue.
