Maybe I'm missing it. Using the ssh interface, is there any place where I can tell what version of StarOS is loaded on the CPE?

Yep, on the bottom-right of the SSH window.

When it is trial mode, it will always say router, but once the appropriate key is installed, it will show either CPE, Router or Server.
