folks,
1) Does StarOS (Atheros) support Netgate miniPCI (802.11a) card?
2) Does StarOS (Atheros) support Proxim PCI card (802.11a)?
3) How do you rate then? (which one is the best?)
4) Any list of supported miniPCI (802.11a) cards?
Thkx,
Angilberto.

I'm about ready to order the 4 port mini-PCI board from routerboard for use in a 1GHz P3 w/ 3 PCI slots. I'll be running server w/ 1 IDE and 1 SCSI for the proxy. Both drives are rather old (9G max for each) and I'm using SCSI to off-load any CPU cycles that an IDE might create.
I'd like to be able to offer 3 channels of G-only (if possible) and have an A-only radio for the backhaul. That would leave me 2 PCI slots for upgrades.
1. So, are there any (dis)advantages of using 4 A/B/G cards? Brands?
2. Can I lock out B from slowing down my links?
3. Would going to a G-only and A-only card give me better throughput and power output?
4. Is this 4 port mini-PCI board worth getting?
Thank you,
Travis

We are still not sure of the power output of the Senao a/b/g cards. They give awesome performance when linked but the power seems to be about 15 dB low. I have heard other musings that the current 100 mW cards are really low due to the difficulty of producing power at 5.8 GHz.
It is not a good idea to lock B since that creates interference for them nd they create it for you, so there is not winner. It would seem to be time for a move to the 5.x bands.
