Are the waveguides H pol? What kind of range can you get in Pine Treed areas?

Looking for penetration of 1/4 - 1/2 mile.

Basically just want to know why I should use these.

I have another mountain city to install that has pine trees, it's about a mile across from hillside to hillside. Trees are not too thick.

Was planning on 12dbi sectors and/or 12dbi Omni with 3% downtilt for the AP sites.

I've heard good things about using waveguides, but don't need to make another purchase mistake.
