Ok, I have 1 star-os station with only 1 radio. I would like to enable hotspot functionality here.

But, one of the connecting clients is a WL11000 board running in client mode setup for routing between client lan and star-os.

I have tried to enable authentication using the mac address, but i think this only works works when connected client (wl11000 board) starts a web browser session. which it cannot.

How can i work arround this issue here? I would like to have hotspot functionality enabled for other clients connecting, and would like to have bandwidth limiting enabled.

Thanks for your help.
Bjorn.

I do not quite know what the WL11000 is. I am guessing it is a Teletronics or Zcom 11 mbit AP used in Client mode.

If that is correct then it is not routing, it is a pseudo bridge. It does not relay the MAC address of the client to our unit. For our system to function we require that a TRUE bridge be used - one that does not modify any packets and simply transfers them to another interface. The only other thing that will work is one of our systems.

To sum up - If you want Hotspot to work, then the unit that clients talk to MUST understand our Hotspot communication protocol. They have to either pass traffic unmodified (all client bridges modify packets so they are not usable) or they have to be able to talk to our software, and that probably means they have to be one of our systems.

Ok, maybe i need to be more specific. The WL11000 board runs Linux and. works as a router. it has 2 interfaces, eth0 using 192.168.0.10 and the wlan0 (192.168.4.2) as a client to star-os (192.168.4.1). The linux router has 192.168.4.1 as its default gateway. all clients in the 192.168.0 subnet have the linux router as a gateway (192.168.0.10).
It is true routing, as there is no bridge interface.

all clients on the 192.168.0 subnet will access the internet via the linux router and then trough star-os.

does this mean i need to have all mac-address from the 192.168.0 subnet into my radius setup? or just the linux router?

maybe stupid question :D

The hotspot functionality requires direct access to each of your customer's MAC and IP addresses. With a router between the hotspot system, and your customer this is not possible. If you are able to bridge the between router, and use WDS to connect to the StarOS system then things should work as expected.

Thanks!

I guess I'll repeat - any device that come in between the client and our Hotspot enabled AP MUST know how to talk to our unit OR it must be a true bridge.

So for the second stipulation, since there are no true bridges that rules all the bridges out.

If your router does not have any settings to configure Hotspot settings for OUR server that pretty much rules out any of the routers.

SPECIFICALLY - at this time the ONLY machines that work with our Hotspot are our very own systems. Until someone duplicates what we do that won't change.

Sorry, but it was not easy to do Hotspot and we added some things that no other systems have.
