View Full Version : StarOS 1.13.1 build 3607 released.
Security Advisory: Previous versions of StarOS use static SSH keys between all releases and editions. The use of this common key could make it easy for a man in the middle attack. As of v1.13.1, all SSH keys are auto-generated upon first boot of the system.
New in version 1.13.1:
New: Routerboard (www.routerboard.com) support
New: DHCP Client support
New: PPtP Client support (use device name 'pptp' in scripts to refer to the pptp interface)
New: Static routes can now be assigned to PPtP users via the Framed-Route radius attribute.
Update: System core has been updated, including Kernel, Bridging, CBQ, IP Accounting, Hotspot and eeZee client.
Update: Hotspot updated to include the ability to Hotspot specific interfaces. Select the hotspot interface via the Interfaces menu.
Update: Hotspot no longer hotspots PPtP and PPPoE users.
Update: National dp8381[56] ethernet update.
Update: PCMCIA core updated to support TI 1520 CardBus adapters.
Fixed: WRAP systems are able to reboot properly now.
Fixed: WDS roaming code has been improved, and should help those who are seeing messages about roaming users where in fact there were none. (Caused by multicast frames from unassociated clients when a peer WDS/AP is reset)
Fixed: ESP (proto 50) packets can once again be used by nat'd users. Problem was introduced in v1.13.1b1.

Just upgraded my router to this, and my ethernet card is nolonger detected, and the system reverts to trial mode because the card the key is tied to is not detected.
Card is a Realtek 8019 (I think).
ISA 8019 card / NE2000 compatible card? Can you reboot and see if it detects it properly?
There is still ISA NIC support in this release. What version did you upgrade from?
Are you able to go into the dmesg log (F9 key) and let me know what it says during the 'ne' card detection?
Thanks!

Yeah, fairly sure it used to detect it as NE2000.
I've done a hard reset 4 or 5 times to no avail. I've never been able to soft reboot this PC with staros, it hangs after "booting the kernal", and I can't get into the BIOS....
Do you know the IRQ and port numbers for the card?
The IRQ can be anything that does not conflict with other ISA or PCI devices. The port must be 0x300 for the first card, 0x320, 0x340 and 0x360 for subsequent cards.

No, sorry, no idea.
Nothing's changed except the staros upgrade. Was on 1.12.6 before.
Not a problem. I will do some testing today and see if I can duplicate your problem with those cards.
To help with troubleshooting, what version did you upgrade from?
Thanks!

Thanks for the help Tony. Finally managed to find out exactly what this machine was (A Compaq DeskPro 4000 6233MMX) and got hold of a bios setup for it. Found the card wasn't on 0x300 (it was on 0x220 or something like that), so I put it there, and it's working fine now.
Until then I'd not changed anything, so maybe it was looking elsewhere before?
The base ports have always been set to 0x300, 0x320, 0x340 and 0x360. I'm not shure how the card could have worked set to 0x220 unless it somehow reset itself after the upgrade.
I'm glad it works now. Did the system remember the key once the NIC was detected, or did you have to re-enter it again?
Thanks!

No, but that probably had something to do with me having to format the hard drive in the middle to get this diagnostics thing on there to see what bios setup version I needed! bl**dy compaq, why can't they just have an on-chip setup like everyone else?!
Anyway, the key was still being displayed in the enter key dialog, when it had reverted to trial mode, even though it was killing the settings after reboot, so I presume it would still have been there after the card was detected again.
Once I'd set the IP address on the local interface and set the key, the settings re-loaded fine using UtiliStar from the backup I made before the upgrade :)
Wonderful news. Backups are very nice, especially in cases such as this.
Thanks!

Tony,
I have an old ISA NE2000 set to P=340;IRQ=5 that is not recognized by StarOS. Unfortunately, I dont have the software to change the cards Port and IRQ. Is there any way to inform StarOS of this non-standard setup?
Thkx,
Angilberto.

No, you will have to get the board changed. ISA support is compiled in and is not tweakable at runtime.
