Hi,
please can I have a short list of cards available on the market that I can use for long distance links? Optimal sensitivity and output power.

Thanks.

For sensitivity and power, I've been really happy with the senao cards.

For distance the Orinoco and OEM clones are tunable for distance, but are all low power, so you will need an external amp if you want power.

If you were looking for a card to do everything, the list is very short... in fact it is empty.

The senao cards are going to start to loose speed after 6 miles, but I have heard of people maintaining fairly good speed at the 15 mile point.

The Orinoco type cards are good for long links, and the distance settings allow maximum thruput at long distances. The downside is they are low power cards, so you will need extra gain from your antenna, or you will need an external amp... or both.

Hi Again,
Can I do 40 km without external amps with the Orinico's. Do you have any figures for their output power and sensitivity?

Thanks.

Teletronics has some high power cards advertised as doing long distance? Are they known to you? Are they not Prism based? Have u heard of any successful long range implementation with Star-OS?

Thanks.

If you can provide us a URL to this card, that would be wonderful.

You will probably need an AMP.

For distance, we have a link in operation that is over 80 Km, and pulls ~375KBytes/s. I do not have details on the antennas or AMP, however the cards used are regular ORiNOCO silvers.

Hi,
please find below the urls for the teletronics cards:

http://www.teletronics.com/tii/products/wireless_lan/LANc11_hp2.html
http://www.teletronics.com/tii/products/wireless_lan/PCI_i.html
http://www.teletronics.com/tii/products/wireless_lan/LANc11_hp.html

They claim they can do 50km with amps. I have been told that about some prism cards before and I am stuck with about 9 of them which I am now trying to find other uses for. Your help will be highly appreciated.

Hi Again,
Teletronics just replied my mail saying they are prism 2.5 cards.

Too bad for me.

Just so you know, those are OEM versions of the Senao 200mw card.

You may be able to go a long distance with them, but when a radio card maker says long distance, they mean more than 1000 feet.

I have a 200mw senao at 12 miles moving 350-400K.

Just an FYI to the 6 mile comment.

"Hi Again,

FYI,
I have a 39 Km link, Star-os box at each end with Orinoco Gold cards, 18.5 grid parabolic antenna's at each end, NO AMP at either end, SNR is 11/12 db. Throughput is around 1 Mbit, link is stable. I also have a number of links around 30km all without amps.
