Hi, when we have our APs set with MOR enabled or 1 megabit/sec instead of auto, does it waste more airtime sending the same amount of traffic? Would it matter, since we throttle at 1 megabit/sec?
Thanks, Bob C

The faster you can set your AP (meaning good signal, low noise) the less air time you will use.

MOR is meant for areas where there is a lot of interference.

Just what does MOR do? My guess is it increases the number of retries on failed packetrs.

Microwave Oven Robustness - it removes the auto rate settings and changes a few other things to make more reliable but slower transfers.

It should only be used in the presence of interference from microwave ovens.

Thanks!
I'll switch the settings back to auto/11meg tonight when I update all the hilltops firmware.

We have a lot of interference (noise) in our area including that from another ISP running 2.4 equipment and multiple APs we have on a single tower.

Questions:

1. Would running MOR possiblely be beneficial to me?

2. Can I run MOR on a Lucent AP that talks to anything from 2MB WL2000 to 11MB 2.5 Prism CPEs? (APs are currently set in 2MB fixed mode.)

Thanks,

Ira

The MOR setting (as of Agere f/w v 6.xx) switches the card to 2Mbit fixed, and reduces fragmentation to 512 bytes (or there abouts). This mode is slow, but can cut through most interference. Note that for this to be effective, both ends should have the option set, which means that non-lucent cards may run into performance problems when associated to a MOR-enabled AP, or a MOR-enabled client associates to a standard AP.

Assuming all CPEs are StarOS and APs are StarOS Lucent silver, all in MOR mode:
Will Teletronics WL2000 work properly in CPEs?
Will Teletronics 2.0 Prism work properly in CPEs?
Will Teletronics 2.5 Prism work properly in CPEs?

I would have to say No to all three, though compatibility with MOR has not beed tested with Prism 2.5 cards with newer firmware. (newer = > 1.3.2)

We have seen cases where the TT 2Mbit card will not associate to a MOR-enabled AP, or if it does, has low and spotty throughput.
