It would be very handy to have a hotspot client mode...
Put the radio in infrastructure mode, and have a optional hotspot login/password setting.
From what I understand, client programming is pretty easy if all you are trying to do is interact with a predictable form.
This would be pppoe-like, preventing the need to rely on mac addresses, giving me an alternative to the pppoe client.
Just trying to find the security middle ground in all of the options available.
My network is going to depend on relays. To secure the relay network I need some sort of reasonable security that can't be spoofed.
Untill StarOS has a pptp client, I will be using a lot of third party products for my cpe. But I can get by without the pppoe client if the hotspot client mode can be added.
I'm becoming concerned that StarOS is going down the path of being a server only, and not having any client capabilities. As a server, the feature mix is the best for the money. My problem is my network design depends on being able to run backhaul radios to an AP in a secure manner. It is a feature of the topology and lack of towers.
I assume I can still leave the pppoe server listening on the interface, so that my draytek based CPE can get logged in with pppoe.
