Hey Guys,

We have been using the IP Accounting feature in our main Star-OS box to keep track of our customers BW usage. All seems to work well.

Unfortunately we have a huge discrepency between what our IP accounting is telling us and what our ISP's numbers are. Almost off by 2x.

Does the ip acounting built into Star-OS monitor all protocols or only TCP?

I have been trying to track down the source of this missing BW without success. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks in advance for your help.

IP accounting tracks IP-based traffic such as ICMP, UDP and TCP.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info Tony.

We are now wondering about VPN traffic. I am by no means an expert on this. Could some type of VPN traffic be passed without being recorded by the IP Accounting?

Anything that rides on the IP protocol will be recorded, including VPN (since it has a source & destination IP address). An example of some things that will not be recorded include IPX and IPV6.

Thanks!
