I found a really great outdoor radio enclosure!
It is a "ritetime" irrigation timer enclosure from Home Depot. It is a "universal" design intended for all brands of timers.
It has a 10.5" by 9.5" by 4" compartment with a velcro back wall. The mounting holes have rubber gaskets, and there are three hols in the bottom with rubber gromets for cables. The case is of plastic construction, similar, but larger, to the grey plastic boxes the phone company uses for dmarc boxes on houses.
There is room for 4 AC outlets (two are included, two you add yourself).
The door is fully gasketed and lockable.
I'll have to go find my receipt, but I think it was around $25 or so. I bought it a couple weeks ago, but just now got around to opening it up and looking at it.

Hey Reed, Don't feel bad.
I got all excited when I saw the post and called my local HD.
They didn't have any and it was not something they stocked.
I needed one for a project tomorrow so I asked the guy to check around.
He said he found 20 of them in a "snob Knob" store about an hours drive away. I skipped supper and headed up there.
After 2 hrs and 4 people looking they were not to be found.
The answer " It must have been a computer error".
Bummer, also I can't find any reference to ritetime anywhere on the net.
Maybe George would broker some of those boxes up from Texas?

I suppose everyone wants a sample, then will get back to me if they want more?
I didn't find my receipt yet, I'll swing by home depot tomorrow and check the price...

Ok, I found the receipt. $24.95 is the cost.
Honestly this is going to be a pain to deal with, as the boxes are only shrink-wrapped, so I have to source shipping boxes for them, and then ship them. I don't mind doing it, but it is meaningless unless I get a line on these things so I can buy and sell case quanities. The way home depot is stocked, I'm not hopeful there will be any ordered in after I buy the last one. I know every home depot store in town because it is not unusual for one to run out of something and so I have to drive store to store to get all of the supplies I need.
So how many people want samples?
Assuming you like them, how many will you buy in the future? Will you be willing to buy them 12 at a time?
And you are right, there is no clue who ritetime is on the unit anywhere. I'll see if the case has any markings that could lead to the manufacturer.
The neat thing about these is they can be used for lots of different things, as the design is universal. I just hope I can find out who makes them, and hopefully they have a range of similar products... it would be nice to get both larger and smaller sizes.
For those still looking for yourself, they are on the irrigation isle of the plumbing department, in the section with the sprinkler timers. Up north I doubt they sell as much lawn irrigation hardware, so they are likely not going to be stocked.
I think I remember seeing one at lowes here.

What a "Nightmare" results to date.
The local store says they can't order anything that isn't marked active.
There is no mech. to special order.
We can't order off the web even if we have a SKU.
The SKU's are not the same all over the country for the same item.
The boxes are made by "Golden Power Manuf"
The PN is GPMG 9099
Maint Warehouse (Owned by HD)
1-800 431-3003 (Special Orders) is qoing to give me a quote so we can all order from the same place (maybe) they don't show GoldenPower as a vendor.
I was sent to them by HD Corp customer service.
George can you ask the service desk at your store if they can get any more?
That would give us an idea how many are in the system.
I have a hunch this might have been a "one shot" purchase.
I hope I am wrong. I really would like to hang these on the outside of customers houses. Up under the eves or out of reach with POE .
Sure would make it easier to get stuff back if they don't pay.
Easier to swap out if no one is home.
Might even work out for self installs.

If it is a one time purchace I would spring for 10-12.. Now if these were too small or too large they would be located at every quicky mart at a buy one get one free price :D Go Figure

The box is made by http://www.ritetemp.info/rt/index.html
If you hit the products button and scroll to the timerbox, you will see it there! The only useful info on the site is the phone number... They have no email addresses or other useful info.
My unit had no info to ID the manufacturer, but Wispy found one that had this on it:
RiteTime
2455 Paces Ferry N.W.
Atlanta, GA 30339-4027
Phone: 1-888-515-2585
From that he was able to trace them to ritetemp...
After digging through the site, it is clear they are only selling product through Home Depot. I don't know if that is a good thing or not, but they only sell about a dozen items.

FANTASTIC !
I just missed the 8pm time to call them.
I can't wait for tomorrow morning.
I will buy 10 or 20 , depending on the price break point and the shipping charges. That is if they will sell to me.
Just so I am sure We can fit one of the 733 /C3 boards in the space at the top. RIGHT?
I am sure there is room left over for a dc to dc converter and a fan.
That reminds me to check current drain with a fan installed via POE.
If I can get that board in there I am going to be a building fool .
This way my product all looks the same no matter what is inside.
It looks as if a MICRO (9 1/2 x 8 1/2 ins) will also fit.
That would be great if a bargin pops up.
Thanks for the "Hound Doggin!"

I have not tried one of the 733 boards, so I can't speak to that.
Ther measurements I posted were those printed on the lable.
Has anyone purchased one and test fit a 733 board yet? I think the user wispy has one, but I don't know if he has a 733 to test fit....

Oh yes, I was wondering if anyone knows where to get the PCI slot daughter board that gives us a lower profile. (Right angle jobbie)
This is something that can get expensive if you don't shop it.
Also I believe we need the one with the 3 little "dangling irq paddle boards".
Might as well tell the darn thing what is where.
I got one with a 2U rackmount but need some more maybe.
Depends on just how deep those boxes are.
If we are tight for depth, I have no compunction against removing the metal brackets and coming up with some other way to secure the cards from falling out.
I just purchased one of these boxes at my local Home Depot and have epoxied 8 motherboard standoffs to it for my mini-itx board and dc-dc powersupply. I removed the bracket from my PCMCIA to PCI adapter and it all fits perfectly.
The gromets that come with it are a perfect fit for LMR-400 and female connector.

Go ahead rub it in.
I called the place in Ga and they don't know anything about the boxes.
They did give me a number of the main office in California.
I tried to call them three times today and all I got was a recorded message that no one was available.
I left a message but so far no call back.
I need about 10 of those things ASAP darn it.
I'll have to keep looking.
Is there room for a micro ATX in there?

I love big corporations that are too big to know how to sell their products.
My Lowes has a similar box with the Rain Bird brand on it, they were sold out when I was there yesterday, but were expecting more. I'll check on it tomorrow.
Hehe,
You gotta rub it in when you can...
I don't believe that there is enough room for a MicroATX in the box. There is just enough room to fit the mini-itx and still be able to access the mounting holes to affix it to a solid surface. I was able to avoid using the PCI elbow because the PCMCIA adapter fits so perfectly when the lid is shut that it won't move. I mounted the dc-dc power supply on its side. I used the velcro that came with the box to stick the ac-dc converter to the inside lip. All that I have left to do is wire the AC outlet inside the box so I can plug it in.

Grainger ( www.grainger.com ) has some lockable ( cabinet type key lock ) outdoor NEMA enclosures that will hold the 733 board, but the price isn't much different from what tony and lonnie sell. And, they are steel, not AL, so they are painted and whatnot.
They have some pretty large ones too, but the price seems to jump dramatically...

Not that there is anything wrong with the aluminum boxes that they guys sell
but I did like that demark style plastic box.
Problem is getting it locally at a decent price.
I have to check Greybar and Granger locally ad see what I can find.
I sent a gripe to HD customer service we will see what that yields.
Thanks for the help,
georgew

Good luck with the HD customer service... All they ever do for me is say "sorry" and send me a cupon for 10% off my next purchase. They are about the least helpful company I regularly work with.

A little update on my quest for these enclosures.
Ritetemp is another Home Depot Company that is why they are listed on the web page.
I finally beat up HD with e mail to the on line customer service telling of all the trouble and dead ends of trying to purchasing these boxes..
They sent me a nice e mail letter saying "The boxes were in the system" and should be able to be ordered from any store.
I took a copy of the e mail to my local store and handed it to the person in the plumbing department . He got on the phone and found out that there are about 800 of them in the NYC, NJ area.(Way downstate from Albany where I am) They can't seem to sell them and they are stored in an overhead. They would have to get some transferred.
The only rub is that it takes a request from a "6th level manager" to make it happen. The fellow in plumbing called me back and said he had followed up and managed to place a special order, I would have to make arrangements for payment with the stores customer service. I called and went through the motions.
So o o o o !
20 boxes are supposed to be on their way and should be here before the end of the month. I'll let you know when they get here.
Sounds like Lonnie's new board would fit in these things very nice.
Hummmm. I love options.

OK guys, the saga is complete!
I have 5 boxes of 4 enclosures each sitting in the middle of my living room floor.
20 boxes cost $540.17 = $24.95 + Tax
Yes they can be Special Ordered. There is a HD store in New Jersey that has 800 of them on the shelf of their warehouse. (So I was told).
I can get you the store number.
-------------------------
If you cut all the little riser supports out of the case and remove the ac power outlet assembly you can fit a VNC (VIA 733 /C3) mother board in there and still have room for the DC to DC power module.
You will have to get creative plugging the resulting 3/8 in holes in the back.
I was even able to squeeze in a minature e machine power supply for AC operation. (More heat to deal with but it has a fan.) 2 1/2 x 4 x 5 ins
----------------
The only way you can use the RICOH adapter is if you get a 2 or three port PCI reiser card and put the cards in horiz.
You might want to use the short Lucent cards also.
If you can get by with low power and short distance the "Prism based " WPCI (Net Gear MA 311, with the bracket removed works like a champ..
There is room for small fans and venting is left up to your requirements..
If it doesn't have to be waterproof you can mount a case fan right in the middle of the front door cover. You will have to make inlet holes where you think best. Looks neat with a chrome fan guard and a blue light.
It makes a very professional presentation.
Hope this info helps STAR-OS users.

I found some motherboards with a two slot horizontal riser that would fit inside this box fine.
I was looking at the box, and frankly taking the posts out may be able to be avoided....
 Mount the motherboard to the door, rather than the bottom. you might be able to find a way to do it where it all fits.
Then use the velcro pad for accessory mounting.
To mount the board. use nylon standoff's and epoxy, or some other glue that will grabb the plastic.
For ventalation, mount a fan over a hole on the side somewhere, and vent out the bottom. Screen and shroud both vents.

Hello everyone I am new to the site I was reading through the threads and noticed this thread about the RiteTime enclosures. I know this is a very old thread but does anyone know if there are any of the enclosures left at the home depot that was referanced above? I use these for other uses and I am looking for about 75 of them or can some one give me the info on the store location and I will follow up with them directly. I live in Dallas and I have gone through most of the stores in Texas and everyone looks at me like I am crazy when I talk about these boxes.
Thanks
