Can someone give me a example of what cool things you can do with this, and how? Right now we have it disabled on our APs, but I have two customers who work together doing web design. They are both on the same sector. Would it be possible for them to send files back and forth between eachother through the AP, without having to go through our backhaul to our DNS server, etc...
right now they use Yahoo Messenger/AOL IM, etc to transfer files. I was just wondering if it is possible to keep it transferred without going out to the internet.

To do this, you need a Peer-to-peer connection between your two customers. FTP or other methods would work.

In order for your customers to be able to talk between each other, you need to have InterBSS relay enabled.

Keep in mind that allowing two customers access between each other will bypass any firewall or bandwidth management you may have in place since it is never passed to the lower levels for processing.

Thanks!

Hi, we tried it and got only 26K thruput. Both clients can get 1 megabit speed going thru our servers when doing a ptp transfer like aol or yahoo messenger. That's what we limit the transfer too at our server. But interbss relay is supposed to be just going thru the sector radio at the hilltop? Any ideas?
One guy is a win2k orinoco client, and the other is a WET11. Should I enable RTS on the hilltop and set it to 500 or so? The 2 guys who are testing this are the only customers on that sector.
Thanks, Bob C

With the nature of air-to-air, the card has twice as much RF traffic than if you were downloading from the Internet. This extra RF traffic will drgrade performance between the customers by typically %50.

Wow, thanks... I wasn't expecting a reply on thanksgiving and all :)
So it's because of the half-duplex nature of the card? Or just the RF in the air at the time as you said...
Will interBSS relay work between two APs at the hilltop (same motherboard, different cards?)
Thanks, Bob C

Haha. We already had our Thanksgiving quite some time ago. No day off for us today.

Yes, two APs in the same box can talk to each other via standard routing or bridging.
