Hi, does anyone have a source for the original card? I want to be able to clip the internal antenna and you can't do that with the ruby. I suppose it doesn't matter if it's Orinoco, Avaya, Melco, Compaq WL110, etc... as long as it's hermes chipset with the clippable internal antennas.
Thanks,

i was wondering what the difference between hermes and ruby was. hmm...
the ruby is a newer chipset than the hermes, but I try to avoid it, not for any particular reason, just the hermes cards are proven and work great. I'll eventually have to switch though. I get mine from YDI, make sure you specify you don't want the ruby chipset, and maybe even give them the fcc ID for the hermes and tell them to make sure it matches that fcc id. I've had it confused a couple of times. I ordered some of the Avaya cards from Hyperlink about 2 months ago, and they were hermes also. I've started using the integrated(antennaless) short cards, I get them from YDI as well. They have them in both ruby and hermes chipsets, both have diversity connectors and no internal antenna. The hermes are a little more expensive, and again, make sure you tell them which chipset you want.

dkii,
I just ordered a batch of the antennaless integrated cards from YDI. I didn't specify which card I wanted (ruby or hermes) but I think they looked at my order history and ordered what I always have ordered (hermes.)
When I put the short card in starOS, it comes up as saying "hermes". Am I correct in assuming that if they sent me the antennaless ruby cards, starOS would report "ruby" as it does with my sapphire antenna card?
Thanks,

They will say hermes or ruby, depending on what is inside.
